Hello,

A swirl of emotions this morning - I wondered if anyone had any advice?

I’ve restarted c25k, but as an ex-grad and ex-10ker i feel both saddened by my loss of ability and nervous about what lies ahead.

Whilst I know I can do the programme, I also know intimately how it is not always easy, and that little voice on my shoulder tells me I used to be faster, and go farther.

I’m on week 3 at the moment, looking to do run 2 today. Kindly appreciate any words of wisdom about patience and positivity to push me out of this pit?!

Hi and welcome back!

So it's expected that some of your fitness/ stamina will have been reduced whilst you've not had chance to run, but don't let that dishearten you, depending on how long it is since you've ran will depend on how you feel. Why not start at week 1 and take it from there?

Lastly be kind to yourself don't expect too much from yourself on those first returning runs!

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

Many of us have had to redo C25K and it always works. You might find it helpful to follow the link in the guide to the post about mental approach.

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

I used to ru further and I used to run faster..........I am older, but I am still running.

Hello!

I understand how daunted you must feel, but at the same time remember that you have been here before and you CAN do it again!!! You are taking positive steps to regain your fitness which is an amazing thing to do and something to celebrate. At this moment you are where you are - and that's great! So much to look forward to.

I suggest you check in with Oldfloss ' 'Catch Up Corner' posts. She has been there and back again several times with C25K, and she is posting each week with wonderful advice and support for everyone here. She gives great value for money too, so be sure to make time and a cuppa before reading her posts 😊😊😊

Hi dreamrun …welcome back, this is prob going to be your hardest post…admitting that you’re a trying again with those gremlins on your shoulder…well, you just need to kick them into touch & show them who’s boss…you’ve don’t it once & I am sure you can do it again…and if it wasn’t hard it wouldn’t be a challenge would it?? It’s easy to say no to something, especially when we’ve done it once…but you’re already showing an inner strength just by returning to it knowing what’s in store. Get those trainers laced up, shoulders back, good times in your ears & keep nailing those runs

Well done you for getting back out there! 👏👏👏My best advice would be not to look back and not to look forward - run each run as it comes. I know it's not easy, but as your fitness improves, you will become more confident and you can look to the future. Until then, just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Welcome back dreamrun and well done for both re-starting and for tackling those gremlins head-on. I'll admit to being in largely the same place. 18 months ago I ran a half-marathon like I was walking to the shops for milk yet this morning I huffed and puffed my way through W1R1! Lots of people will tell you not to compare yourself to others and that includes comparing yourself to a previous version of you. We know the programme works and we know what follows, but there's no shortcut. The only thing we can focus on right now is doing those runs, one after the other, one step at a time. I wish you all the very best in your re-awakening. :)
