Week 6 run 3 snow and ice

Hi guys!

So we have had snow for a couple of days and it’s just too icy for me to go out for my usual runs. This means I only did 2 runs last week and I’d have 4 days in total of not running. Despite being hugely disappointed and for some reason blaming myself I’m hoping to get back out there for tomorrow! However I’m quite worried about this as I have missed so much so thought I’d run week 6 run two again.

Does anybody have any advice or tips on what to expect getting back out there? Have I ruined what I have already achieved?

Thanks everyone and happy running!

As stated in the guide to the plan, you lose no significant condition in the first two weeks of non running. After that loss of condition is gradual, so you will have little trouble picking up where you left off.

All any of us can do after a lay off is to go out for a gentle run and see what we can comfortably manage, then use C25k or something similar to rebuild stamina and resistance to injury.

Hi Pymander10 , I'm tempted to tell you to chill, but you're probably cold enough already!

Seriously, don't stress it. From what you said, you completed W6R2 fine, you've just missed a couple more days than planned. If you'd feel reassured by redoing W6R2, you can, but I very much doubt that you need to.

There are rest days in the programme for a reason - only running twice in the week instead of three times is far from a disaster, it could well be of benefit.

Thing is, if you set out on a run worried and thinking you've ruined things, you might struggle, just because your mental approach is negative. If you go out thinking "Wow, I've had extra rest, my body's raring to go now!" then there's every chance you'll be absolutely fine. Happy running!

Hi Pymander10 . I think you made a very sensible decision. You were being safe not running on ice and waiting for conditions to improve. When I used to live back home in Yorkshire, I couldn’t even walk along my path outside my flat without falling over when it’s icy!

As for running, as IannodaTruffe said a four day break will not change a thing. But if you want to redo week 6, then redo it. Just do what feels best for you. All the best! 👍🏻
