Though a graduate, still very new to running and want to know your expert opinion on jumping ropes on alternate days. Currently I go to swim or walk during off running days but saw some YouTube videos and am inspired by ropes as well but don’t want to over-stress and get injured. Hence the question!
Jumping Ropes on alternate days? Good idea or ... - Couch to 5K
Jumping Ropes on alternate days? Good idea or not?
Excellent aerobic activity but also high impact !
Following on from Instructor57 it is impact that causes the damage that requires rest days to repair and strengthen.
The most vivid analogy that I have heard is to imagine a dessert jelly set on an ice lolly stick. Bang the stick on the ground for long enough, the jelly starts to separate from the stick.
Your muscle is the jelly. Your bone is the stick.
The advice to new runners is not to even consider running on consecutive days until they have a minimum of six months running on their legs. runnersworld.com/runners-st...
Depending on how much you do, that high impact exercise may do as much damage as running.
Ok noted! Will heed your advice also understand your logic. Probably 6 months later thanks for your advice!
Read the runnersworld link and base your decision on that.

I graduated at the end of August last year. I had most of September off (ankle sprain from overdoing it) and then re-graduated at the start of November.
I didn't start running two days in a row until I'd already run every other day consistently for about six months and had already achieved a 15km run. I had a short run of short runs just before Easter. I still take rest days regularly.
I haven't yet had a week without at least one rest day in it. I might do that if there is a RED (Run Every Day) January.
For rest days, walking is good, cycling is good, swimming is very good, weight training is good, yoga and pilates are also good. I tend to do a lot of walking if the weather is fair.
I would recommend Pilates. There are lots of videos on YouTube and also some on the NHS website. I go to a class every week and it’s well worth the money. I come out feeling like I’ve been stretched on the rack! It feels sooooo good and my back and computer neck are sorted for another week. It also stretches out my leg muscles which can be tight after running. It has improved my balance and flexibility too. And the best bit is that you do most of it lying down 😂. It’s so relaxing. Can you tell that I love it 😊
Thanks Frizzbomb67 . Will also try Pilates have heard quite about it but never tried. A week free of back and neck pain 🙌
