I thought it was a good idea...

...to run before breakfast today. Inspired by the many early morning posts I have read just recently, of folk trying to avoid the heat of the day, and with the long school holidays ahead of me, what a great idea! I did many of my earlier C25k runs in the early morning but as my distance increased and runs became longer it became trickier to fit them in before work, so I tend to run either later in the day, after work or late mornings at the weekend or on days off.

Anyway, off I set this morning, prior to my morning cuppa 😩 and with only a hurriedly snatched half glass of water and strawberry to sustain me! Don't know whether it was the time of day, the lack of food or just the humidity at present, but after a couple of k, I knew it was going to be one of THOSE runs! Nothing in the tank, felt really hot and just hard work all the way round. I even gave myself a short walk break, which I don't normally do.😠 Kept to a pre-planned 4.5k circuit out on the local bridleways; lovely and quiet, trails to myself with the exception of a couple of early morning dog walkers and yes, it really is a very beautiful and peaceful time of the day. My niggly hip is definately better so I guess that's a positive, so hope to get back to my weekly long runs soon as I haven't done a 10k for a good few weeks now☹️. Hopefully, we will get a break from this humidity soon, too. As for running before breakfast - will continue to add this to the mix during the hols and see if it's easier next time out! Happy running everyone! πŸ™‚

Well done! I admire these people who can run on empty - I've tried it enough times to know it just isn't for me. I'd have to have my coffee and at least half a slice of toast before I could consider running!

Morning Sandra !

Well done on your run today !

I have been humming and aaahing about going out early too instead of after work .

I did a 10k last night . It was overcast but so humid ! I was practically on my knees at the end of it . I just had nothing left at all and was practically running on fumes !

I take water and some little bite sized snacks on my longer runs and normally have a cuppa tea and half a nana before I go out.

Glad the hip behaved itself ! :-) xxx

I was out earlier too thinking it was a little cooler having rained a bit overnight. Wrong - that moisture has all been sucked up into the air and there is just no oxygen to be had! A hot slog πŸ˜“

I was glad I went out too... it is much hotter now..29 degrees! So glad I can choose my early running. I really admire all of you who still work and have to fit the runs in... you are amazing!

Isn't the heat a killer? 36 here tomorrow, so I withdrew from my race. Wouldn't have been fun running at midday in those temperatures. Your run still went better than mine this morning. I had a wardrobe malfunction with my short new shorts. They just kept riding up between my legs and I was forever trying to jank them back down. It was so annoying, I gave up, walked home and chucked them in the bin. Back to my skapris which end below the knee but they're soft, clingy lycra and much more practical in the end. I'm not running 10 k in this heat either, just 3 comfortable short trots a week.

I really don't blame you for withdrawing from a race in 36 degrees! What a shame about your shorts..think I would have done the same though! Nothing worse than wardrobe malfunctions or annoyances when your running! I won't even be attempting a long run until it's milder, and then only if I think my hip is still good.

I think you did really well on a glass of water and a strawberry Sandra! That's good news about your hip too and the rest obviously helped a lot.

I'm with you on wishing this humid weather breaks soon. It's not good for us runners!
