Today dawned bright and sunny (and chilly). Perfect morning for a run.
This was my 12th (?) 30' run since graduation at the end of August. It felt good and looking at the stats I've run faster but not consistently; this time it was a really steady pace all the way round and very comfortable. I'm running outside on roads (the parks are very wet at the moment) so obviously you have to account for crossing roads or slowing for traffic. So I feel really positive about that.
I do have a question though: I have taken up squash again (after 45 years!!! - the last time I played was with a wooden racket at university!) and I'm loving it. So it's a bit of a challenge fitting squash sessions around resting from 30' runs because I don't want to overdo it (I'm nearly 70 after all). I'm not very good but I'm really loving the physicality of it; basically I love putting improved fitness together with a bit of strategy and game-play. There is some impact involved though, obviously, and I don't want to overstress my system. Up to now I've always timed my runs so that squash comes after at least 40 hrs rest; is it okay to plan the runs more often than that? So, for instance, our squash training sessions are on Thursday nights and I ran this morning (ie 36 hrs later). It felt fine and there are no aches and pains. Is this okay?
