Congratulations on completing run 3 of week 6, you are now OFFICIALLY a RUNNER, you have done the IMPOSSIBLE, nothing is impossible regarding C25K, onwards and upwards to week 7 which are all 3 /25 minute runs. šš¾
You are fitter than you thinkā¦ this plan keeps you challenged the whole way through. After graduation the advice is to consolidate until it becomes more comfortableā¦ thatās when youāll see the fitness level. For some immediate perspective though the average person cannot run 10 minutes or a mileā¦ youāre running 25!
I too just finished W6.. The fit feeling will come because you are now officially fit just your mind is so used to being unfit that it doesnāt let you believe...
Really short of breath? If so slow down a bit more. Otherwise, just keep plodding on... it does get easier. Consolidation (just sticking at 30 mins after graduation for a few weeks) helped me as you get to just repeat the time rather than continually adding more time to your running total. I have rare moments where running feels natural, a lot of the time it feels like a challenge, but I know that for me it's a mental challenge mostly - the body is capable but the mind thinks it would be easier to quit. Keep stamping those gremlins out!
Your subject line suggests you have doubts re: your fitness. But your post sounds quite confident!
Weight-loss ... consider C25K as a gateway to healthier living , including, importantly, how you eat and drink. Have you changed that since starting? Frustratingly, exercise (especially cardio like, running, cycling, swimming, rowing, elliptical, dancing etc) plays a surprisingly small role in weight-loss - but changes in your diet will have by far the biggest impact.
Running burns 1 calorie per 1 kilogram of bodyweight, per 1 kilometer . So if you are 70kg and run 5k (3.1 miles), you burn ... 70x5 ... 350 calories.
Which... isn't very much when you think what a few glasses of wine or beer contain or a burger etc etc. In other words, you have to starting running a LOT (many hours in the week) to really start burning a significant amount of calories.
Changing your eating and drinking habits however ...
