I was watching BBC Breakfast News this morning, just before the 7 o'clock News there was a promotion for C25K, so perhaps there will be more people joining us on this forum
Promotion for C25K : I was watching BBC... - Couch to 5K
Promotion for C25K
If it gets just one person up off the couch and out there running it will have been worthwhile. C25k has made such a huge difference in my life and I don't know if I would have carried on without the support and encouragement from all my lovely VRBs on here
Many people have said that their life has been changed for the better by C25K, the benefits of running and improving their health.
Most definitely a change for the better for me.
I was well on the way to developing a beer belly (though it wasn't showing much), a hazard for guys getting into their fifties as their metabolism slows a little, especially with a sedentary lifestyle and desk job.
This is a sign of other hazards like an increase in visceral fat.
It's gone now. I'm now at the weight I was when I was in my early twenties, if you discount the extra muscle mass I have now. Some of my trouser waists now bunch up when I tighten the belt correctly. Formerly they were straining at the waist button; now they're tight in the upper leg.
Another change is that most days I don't want to stay in bed like I used to. Yes, the snooze button gremlin still gets me occasionally, but in general I'm up with the alarm now. This probably means I'm getting a better quality of sleep.
I get much fewer leg/foot cramps than I used to.
Interesting reply from you nowster, running in itself won't reduce weight or your waist for that matter, doing exercises and a healthy diet as well will. ๐
I think my diet was almost OK. I haven't changed it much, except maybe cutting out a few snacks. I haven't done any extra exercises apart from walking. My general level of activity was abysmal, and fixing that is what made the difference.
C25K is a life changer for mental and physical health... So the more people doing it the better.
Thatโs good to read Al. This is a great forum and many many people benefit from it so thatโs brilliant!๐๐x
Nicely spotted Al and well done C25K! I would never have done any running (if you can call what I do running!) had it not been for the plan. I enjoyed it and couldnโt believe that I could actually do it - I hope others will pick up the baton and enjoy it as much as I did!
I saw a promotion of C25K during The Great Scottish Run of 2017, there was a interview with 2 women who ran a 5K every Saturday morning after they had graduated from C25K.
During the winter months of 2017/2018 when I was out doing my long walks I occasionally had a few 2 minutes 'test' runs to find out how I got on when running, those very short runs ended with a full fairly fast walk/run of 5 kilometers over the local December Santa Dash 5K course in early April of 2018 in a time of around 42 minutes, it was a few weeks later on April 18th that I began C25K with run 1 of week 1 and graduated on the 18th June nine weeks later.
Dexy and UTS got me into it really and of course I was already volunteering at parkrun by then (well I thought I may as well register and get credits for it as I was going anyway to cheer on my buddies!) - so it was a logical step for me. Itโs good to be back isnโt it!
Thereโs a new guy at work who is on week 7 we talk running most days
Itโs been revolutionary for me - I canโt recommend the app enough
It has been a complete life changer for me. I over indulged in my 20s, 30s and 40s and then in my mid fifties the engine warning light came on.
I suffered a heart attack and so decided to get active through C25K. I've lost some of my blubber and am now fitter than I have been for decades.
I still need the people on here to get me through the tough weeks though. Just love the support of this forum.
I started C25K January 2019. And Iโm sooo glad I did. As others have said itโs been a life saver at times, especially through the first lockdown, and this forum is so supportive. Thank you to everyone who posts regularly on here as I love reading them. Keep running and stay kind to yourselves
My local athletics club is starting a c25k drive this September.
Great news Petem56, there are a few running clubs that do not accept runners unless they can run a sub 60 minutes 10K, other clubs like yours who accept beginners and promote training programs like C25K.
C25K ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฅ
I started doing the C25k after they talked about it on BBC Breakfast just over three years ago. The weather presenter, Carol Kirkwood had completed it and it sounded like a great way to ease myself into running and an exercise programme without having to go to a gym.
yes I saw that too, and wondered the same. Will be interesting to see... As with Birdlady64 C25K has also made a huge difference to my life. It got me running again after years away from it for lots of different reasons, and I made so many 'virtual supportive ' friends on the forum, who have encouraged and supported me to where I am today, and thats completely loving running again! ! ๐๐โโ๏ธ
