Terrible!!!

It’s me again So I tried again this weekend No excuses about weather being too hot. ..after all the great advice and support I decided to rewind to the week where it’s a 20 min run. . I literally made it to 8 minutes and was totally done. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? it’s actually putting me off as I feel so down now that I’m nowhere near what I was able to do 3 weeks ago ( and even that wasn’t amazing)

Tried again next day - same again. I did walk then run again but in total only managed 3 k with only a third of that jogging. So so hard. I felt hot and breathless.

Really ready to hang up my sports bra 😩

Nothing is wrong with you. Getting restarted can be a slow process.

You literally made it to 8 minutes... which is a lot better than someone starting for the first time can do. Use that as your guide as to where to resume the plan, combined with the other run/walk. Maybe going to somewhere around week 3 would be better?

Heat gets the blame, but humidity is worse in my opinion as it hinders our cooling system. Maybe that is a factor here?

Slow it right down, if you can walk faster that’s great. For the treadmill I suggest to people that they walk and keep speeding up until they have to run to keep up, and then they slow it down a couple of taps. Similar is possible in the great outdoors.

Relax, believe... you CAN do this

I think UnfitNoMore's advice is great... There is nothing wrong with you, if you read my post today, I think much of this running business is mental and our brain tries to get us back on the couch. I am finding the humidity unbearable whilst running at the moment , I had finished my run by 7.30 am this morning and I was sweating buckets ! I think UnfitNoMore is right about week 3. You have this , just remember what you have done and believe ... Say no to the couch and yes to the sports bra!

What is terrible?

You got out there and established what you can do.........that is a starting point, not a disaster.

Celebrate what you can do. Don't worry about what you cannot do.

Many of us have had to redo C25K.........and you know what........it works every time.

Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running.

This post expands on the theme. healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Be positive and accept where you are and create the strategy to move forward.

Firstly , there is nothing wrong with you !You have had a break .

As already suggested, it takes time to come back and again as already mentioned , you now have a starting point .

I do notice that you said you tried again the day after ?!

Give yourself a rest day , don't be too hard on yourself .

Just take your time moving forward from the 8 minutes , you will get there !

Please do not hang up your sports bra except to dry after a wash! You are amazing to get off the couch and get out there. My biggest problem is my mental attitude and I’m making a huge effort not to feel a failure when after 3 go’s I still can’t manage all the minute jogs. I’m damn well going to get back out there today and repeat W1 till I can do them. You ran for 8 minutes which I think is amazing, I wish I could ring for 8 minutes so to me you’re a legend! X

I got to where I ran a FM last year, yesterday I quit after 2 and a half miles and 32 minutes.

Just didn't have it together mentally to continue to my target of 3 miles. (Recovering from a non-running related incident that sidelined me for a few weeks)It was beastly hot and humid here too, I was physically tired, a bit frustrating when you are rebuilding your Running capacity etc etc.

We are human, not machines - some days just don't go all that great...

However, five years ago I could barely finish Day One, Week One. I was in genuine distress - could hardly breathe and almost passed out, legs next day were completly cramped etc etc. I was the definition of "Unfit" and had never run more than a hundred very uncomfortable paces in my life.

Progress, not perfection. Look at what you have achieved rather than what you didn't - comparison is the thief of joy.

Keep going out the door - it does get better. Take it slow, steady and on at least SOME level enjoyable. You only compete with yourself after all :)

My heartfelt ambition when I started was to be able to run three tenths of a mile without stopping (or collapsing in pain at the end lol) I firmly remembered that yesterday - when I think of where I came from, 2 and a half miles is an EPIC event for me :)

And the fun part is - seeing what will happen tomorrow on my run :) This running lark sure beats sitting on a sofa :)

Wishing you many happy miles in your future :)

I've often had the same 'what is wrong with me' feeling - especially when reading so many posts about the joys of a run and runners highs etc. Occasionally I'll have a moment when I'm out running when it feels good but mostly it's a slow, arduous slog. My goal for the summer (graduated for the third time last year!) was to run three times a week, one of which to be 5k - but I just have not felt up to it, so instead I get kitted up and head off for 30-40 mins with good music and no goal!! I might jog for a third or for two thirds or for three minutes, but for now I'm just not pushing it too hard as I don't want to risk packing it all in completely. And it ALWAYS feels better when I get home hot and sweaty.

Thank you to you and all the people listing to help. I’m taking it all in. Went this morning did a full 20 mins think it was week 5 run 3. Still disappointing and frustrating to see how slowly it is to build up and then how quickly it disappears if you stop But least I’m back and feeling more motivated after all the replies. On a side note - tried to click on c25k app week 5 run 2 but it’s as though screen is frozen couldn’t scroll down to where it says repeat this run. Same on other runs on other weeks. Anyone had this?

Also should I be concentrating on increasing time running now or distance?

Well done.

Why disappointed?

Your current fitness level is a fact that you have to come to terms with, then create the plan to improve the situation. It has happened to many of us.

You already know a really effective training plan for runners.......it is called Couch to 5k. Just follow the plan from what you can manage, so perhaps repeat W5R3 just to make sure it is comfortable, then work through to the end.

You cannot wish yourself fit. You have to put in the work, but you know you can do it because you have done it before.

It might be worth reinstalling the app.
