Three more mixed runs and no new trainers

I went to the running shop for my gait analysis this week and left with no new trainers πŸ˜”. The shop had hardly any to try on, only about 6 pairs after rulling out the pronation support shoes and trail shoes. I was keen to try lots of different brands, esp Altras after hearing they're the only maker who designs on the female foot. I can't get back to the shops until another week or so but now I know I'm a neutral runner so at least that will help!

This week I stuck to my running plan. I did 1 x 30 min run at my normal pace. I ran 5.5km slowly as my 10% increase and I did the nrc intervals session which went by really quickly! I enjoyed them all πŸ™‚. The routes were all different too so even more enjoyable. I'm now passing the friendly stone much earlier in the run than I used to as it's not my half way marker any more! It does remind me of how I felt during the C25K runs when I got up to the stone 😊.

I had my second jag this morning and am off camping on Skye tomorrow for 3 nights. Hoping there'll be no bad effects πŸ˜‚. I'm going to take my running things with me anyway and try to go out for a 6km run while there. I love the chance to run somewhere new, especially on the longer slow run with time to look around!

The pic is a random one I took of a doorway above the local pub on my cool down walk. You can see the grapes in it but I'm not sure what the rest of the design means πŸ˜„.

Have a good week everyone!

I think mixing up the runs as you are doing and using the NRC app all help the motivation , and when you get them , so will the new running shoes 😁

Ive been scrolling through tons of trainers online and I'm stuck in analysis paralysis now πŸ˜‚ I definitely need to go into the shops to try them on!

Oh that’s rubbish! But I suppose lots of us have taken to running during the lockdown hopefully next time! I really need to do that when I get some spare time .

Have a lovely trip to Skye I bet it’s beautiful and fantastic for a run, second jab def not as bad as first fingers crossed.

I’m going to start towards the 10k next week and follow the plan I wasn’t going to until the autumn thinking summer would be too hot but it appears summer is missing the south east this year πŸ˜‚

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks, the weather is looking interesting in Skye at the moment 😬. That's great you're going for the 10k πŸ‘πŸ˜€ we'll prob be on a similar path! I wonder when to switch to Bridge to 10k forum? I joined that before C25K as I was looking for inspiration for what to do after 5k then quickly realised I didn't know enough about running to be even thinking about 10k so joined C25K!

Well done on those runs and mixing it up! That’s such a shame about the shoes, I bet you were all excited to get some new ones. But how lovely to be off on your hols for a bit of a break and somewhere different to run. Have a great time! My 2nd vaccination was much better than my 1st. πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Thanks Frenc! My trainers now have 2 holes in the sole so it's getting critical! I'm so looking forward to this trip and if the jag effects aren't too bad then a run somewhere beautiful 😊

Shame about the shoes but have a great time away anyway, I haven’t tried that interval run yet

tmbtrainGraduate in reply to WillowandSola

Thanks Sola! I found the intervals really good for a change in routine and the workout was over really quickly. Hopefully you can try it!

Now you know that you are a neutral runner there is a lot more choice of shoe. Perhaps a phone call to the running shop so they could get some in for you on your next visit.

Keep up the excellent work.

Thanks, it was useful to know I'm neutral. The running shop was inside a cotswolds store so I'm not sure if that's how they normally are, I don't remember them being there the last time I was in. There's a run4it shop in town that might be better. So many trainers it's hard to know how to choose πŸ˜†

grumpyoldgirl profile image
grumpyoldgirlGraduate in reply to tmbtrain

You should do better at the run4it shop, and you might get more knowledgeable advice there too. I've had a similar experience in a Cotswold store. I was really surprised at how many shoes they had up on display, but they only had one pair in my size out of the four that I was interested in. Hope yours last until you get new ones🀞

tmbtrain profile image
tmbtrainGraduate in reply to grumpyoldgirl

Ah it sounds like you had the same experience as me! I'll maybe try run4it when I get home. I shouldn't have left it so late to buy them πŸ˜†

Oh no what a shame about the shoes after your long-awaited trip! At least now you know you need a neutral shoe and there will be LOADS of choices of those when they're available! Very well done with mixing up your runs - and enjoying them πŸ‘πŸΌ Have a fab time on your trip 😊 Look forward to run reports from there!

Thanks D25K, the trainers situation is now getting critical I worry the soles will be left on the path behind me! I'm hopeful to get out for a run at least once while away πŸ™‚

Well done for mixing up your runs and it’s great that you are seeing progress! Shame about the shoes, but good that you know what you need. Enjoy your time on Skye! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

tmbtrainGraduate in reply to Jools2020

Thanks Jools, progress it is! It's funny when I look back to some of the first run reports and realise how far this journey has taken me! Definitely hoping to get out for a run while away πŸ™‚

Well done on the runs progress. Shame about the trainers, but at least you have deferred enjoyment and it will still be exciting when you find the ones you love!Have a fab time on hols and enjoy running in a new location.

I’m out of action with COVID πŸ™πŸ˜”πŸ™

Ah sorry to hear about covid πŸ˜” Have u got the bug or quarantining/isolating? I hope it's not for long in either case 🀞

Self and Hubbie were isolating with daughter who brought it back from uni, but we’re also both now positive, so in total we’ll be stuck at home until 13 July. ☹️☹️ Missing my morning runs already, though I’m too I’ll be be tempted anyway.

Aw sorry πŸ€’ I hope you're all well again soon. Be good to yourself, take it easy and it'll be the 13th in no time at all!

Which NRC interval run did you do? I tried 'In the zone'' and found it real hard going, despite it being shorter than what I usually do. Is there a less challenging one?Good luck with the shoes!

tmbtrain profile image
tmbtrainGraduate in reply to Oldbadknees

Hi oldbadknees, I've screenshot the one I did. 8x1 min run, 1 min walk. Running at a strong pace rather than sprinting although I guess you sprint if you wanted to. I liked listening to the coach and hearing how long was left in each minute run. Maybe worth a try for you?

Thank you. It looks quite similar to the start of C25K? I’m encouraging my son to start that and said I’d run with him tomorrow so it looks like it’s gonna be lots of intervals for me if he decides he likes it!

tmbtrain profile image
tmbtrainGraduate in reply to Oldbadknees

Yeah it is! Only difference is C25K has 90s recovery times. Good luck tomo I hope you're son enjoys it too.

Oldbadknees profile image
OldbadkneesGraduate in reply to tmbtrain

Thanks, he's just as anti running as I was at the beginning (wonder where he got that from πŸ˜‚) but I have high hopes. Only problem is he towers over me so I'm probably going to have to sprint just to keep up with those long legs of his even if he thinks he's going slowly!

That sucks about the trainers. Prior to starting couch to 5K (now 3 weeks completed) I went to my local runners need store for GAIT analysis which was a great experience.

I would suggest checking out your local runners need store if you want. I would hope stock levels and customer service don't vary too much across their stores

tmbtrain profile image
tmbtrainGraduate in reply to couchvssofa

Hi couchvsofa, that was where I went except it was inside cotswolds. I'm not sure if it was a stock issue but they only seemed to have 3 brands I could try, New Balance, Brookes and another brand I can't remember! I hoped to try Altra, Nike, UnderArmour, Asics etc but wasn't possible. When I look online there's just so many to choose from its incredible! What did you end up buying?

couchvssofa profile image
couchvssofa in reply to tmbtrain

Hi,

I tried on 3 trainers during the appointment and I'm the end the ones that were most comfortable were the last. I think the GAIT analysis showed my feet lean inwards, I think called it overpronation

Asics GT-2000 is what I got in the end or rather my wife got them as a birthday present so lucky me πŸŽ‰
