I graduated a couple of months ago and love running. I started running early (5.30am) a few weeks ago when the weather got a bit warm for me to run after work. Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been getting migraines during the morning after the run. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Dellie200, thankfully I don’t get headaches when I run, but like you, have been running very early due to the heat and work. At that time of day I’m sure I haven’t been up long enough to have an optimal run - my body’s just not geared up for it yet. I wonder if that could be a reason? I guess what I’m trying to say is we go from being sound asleep to running in a short space of time and it’s just too much blood being pumped around too early, especially to the head. I really hope that makes sense! It’s not a very scientific answer I’m afraid. 😊🏃‍♀️😊🏃‍♀️😊🏃‍♀️

Thanks Frenc, I think that could be it. It’s annoying as I’ve been really enjoying the early mornings and actually feel full of energy. I think I probably need a trip to the doc.

@Dellie100 another early runner I prefer mornings, welcome to the pre-breakfast club. This in the pinned posts of the forum explains good hydration.

Thanks Drun, but I drink 3 litres a day. I’m an obsessive water drinker 🤣

I do love those early mornings so I hope it goes away or I find a solution.

This has been me lately. Things have got a little better when I’ve got up 1.5 hrs before my run and had breakfast. I’m obsessive about water so knew that wasn’t an issue. I’m also running with a cap as well as sunglasses to avoid any sun. I still feel like I could get a migraine but i’m really careful to eat and drink properly for a few hours after, and to keep mild painkillers handy to take very early on when they might actually have an impact.

The glasses seem to have done the trick! Not one symptom since I’ve started wearing them. I’ve also noticed that the sun rises over the skyline I face on part of the run, so I make sure to keep my eyes down on that bit. Thank you for the advice 😊

That is good news! :)

I would say de hydrated but you say you drink plenty, I always drink more the night before a run and drink a glass before I go out. I have always suffered migraines and had a few headaches at the beginning of my running journey but not after I have changed to this drinking more pre run night. They are horrible so I hope you find the answer🤞🏻

Maybe a combination of pushing yourself too hard, the heat and not drinking enough water. Humidity doesn’t help either.
