Flaming June race

Yesterday was a 10K race day, Flaming June, first real live event in yonks! I've been following a Garmin Coach plan with Greg, my training rather fell to pieces after my Covid shots.. I had really very little energy and certainly no speed...I had a message from Greg two days before the race telling me I was so far behind I should cancel my race....thank you Greg, great way to encourage a runner....

Suffice it to say I took no notice of him. I was under no illusions about my abilities, and knew it would be slow. Guess what? I didn't care!! I had a whale of a time, the course was interesting with a very pretty village, off road bits and a stretch along the "iconic" guided busway. Lots of support from spectators along the way. The name is quite funny really, it was decidedly chilly, overcast and damp.

It was hard but I did it, in 1:24:24, I was expecting 1:30 so I'm delighted with this. Oh, and I was last!! Someone has to be and I think it was a fast course... Still buzzing today....

That’s a great time and good for you not listening to Greg and enjoying the race.

Thank you. I'd trained for 1:15, but that was a bit ambitious for me at the best of times.

Well if we’d run together you’d have had time for a quick shower and make a cup of tea before i got to the end, my fastest (can you call it that? ) 10k was 1’43” so i’m well impressed and sure you will get faster

I've been running for 7 years... my best ever was 1:16, that was before cancer treatment kinda got in the way lol! I'm just happy I'm still here and still plodding along.

That’s awesome to be still running after that treatment

They tell you to exercise, it helps with the fatigue. I have to keep moving otherwise it's won...

Yay! Well done! 👏🏅🏃‍♀️ Nice bling! That’s a great time.......they do bonfire burn 10k, I wonder if it was the same route? If it is, it’s a very fast course.....one the speedy sorts like.....

I’ve always been put off the ‘flaming June’ events as it’s usually so hot! Should have done it this time!

Glad you enjoyed it

I don't think so, but I'm not sure - does this look familiar? The fastest ones did 36 mins....and even most of the HM runners had finished by the time I came in

No, I think it’s different, bonfire burn does the bus way very early on and you head towards town, then go round Milton road business /science park and past the traveller site and back up to the back of the sports ground.....yes, it’s a very speedy club over there.....Mx

Greg's a wuss, well done for doing that, my best time for 10k is around 1:30, so I would have been behind you :D
