So I’ve just completed W3R3 and I’ve found myself waiting for the trainer to tell me to walk again. I’m looking at W4R1 and running for. Full 5 minutes seems like I will really struggle with motivation and also to breathe. Any tips?
Constantly waiting for trainer to tell me to w... - Couch to 5K
Constantly waiting for trainer to tell me to walk again- how will I ever run 30 mins without stopping!
Kordel,
My big tip is this. Slow down. You may not think you can go slower ..... but you can. Slow down so you are comfortable breathing. This makes the runs so much easier to do.
When i found myself struggling i was given the same advice. Eventually i listened and learned. It was a massive step for me to help me complete the program.
Thanks Alan, great advice; much appreciated
Do you listen to music at the same time? That helps. The app will automatically turn down the volume of your music when the trainer speaks. I think everyone waits for the permission to stop! If you’ve completed the previous runs, you are ready to move on. Just slow down and slow down again.
Hiya I just completed wk3 run 2 and completely hear you! I think the key is to try throw yourself into the music you’re listening to or something else but must say equally struggling looking ahead. Then again I thought that with wk3 but by some miracle went from 90sec to 3min so I’m sure we can do it! 🙂
It’s so hard isn’t it! I haven’t been listening to music as I run on a road, but will defo start doing so to help motivate me. Thanks for the tips and congrats on W3!
Oh no have u only had the app on then running to silence?? Yeh music will defo help you then- it’s only thing got me through 3min runs🤣 keep thinking “one foot in front the other don’t stop don’t stop until u hear Laura” haha
Haha yes! Complete silence 😂 I was just worried a car would run into me tbh. I’m sure they’ll beep or something if I need to move for them anyway! I’m exactly the same, I have Sarah and I just keep thinking, Sarah, are you there hun?! Can I stop pls
Would agree with those saying to slow down. I looked at it that I was running for a time and not distance so however long it took me was irrelevant. I see this, and I’ve just completed Week 5 with the 20 min run, as a challenge to run, however slow, for 30 mins and if, in that time, I complete 5k then that’s a bonus.
Keep at it,believe in yourself and it will come.
Good Luck.
The first ten minutes or so of running are always uncomfortable and almost demoralising for me and I have completed a Marathon :)It takes time for the body to " settle into" the run, mentally your lizard brain just wants to curl up on the sofa. However, at a certain point - it all comes together and becomes fulfilling and enjoyable.
I never believed I would graduate, and it took me about fourteen weeks - that was five years ago - but by the end of the programme I actually got to where I disliked the walk breaks as they seemed to interrupt my "buzz"
Run slow, then slower still - believe me, you are presently pushing yourself faster and harder than neccesary. Learning to maintain a suitable pace is one of the hardest techniques of all, look at the Olympic runners - they always have someone on the team who has no intention of winning but who is the vital pace setter for the others to run behind until the last all out sprint.
Keep it slow, steady and enjoyable on at least some level and you will graduate.
Wishing you many happy miles in your future.
