Vaccine trepidation 🥺

I haven’t posted for while simply because I have just been doing my thing and going out running 3/4 times a week. No goals, no challenges - just enjoying being able to go out for a jog and feel like a new woman afterwards pretty much every time.

So, bringing the post back to its point - I was scheduled for my first vaccine on Saturday so I made sure to run on Friday just in case I was laid low for days like my daughter was - severe bone shaking chills, rotten aching muscles, sore skin all over - you get the picture. Off I go to Westfield Stratford for my jab and much to my surprise and delight it was run like a well oiled machine. Flawless organisation.

Fast forward 10 hours and I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I had the kind of nights sleep that I can only usually dream of and woke up still tired but - thankfully - no aches and pains or chills. Just a very low level nausea and tiredness.

So, what do I do when I feel tired usually? I tell myself to stop being a plum and go for a run so that is exactly what I did. I made sure that the husband knew my route in case I ‘had a turn’ but I did 6k with no more effort than normal.

So the point of the tale is this - don’t do what I did and presume that you’ll be invalided with side effects - just go with the flow because you may be lucky and dodge them pretty much altogether.

For info : I had the Astra Zeneca vaccine.

I am glad to hear you overcame the side effects.

It might not be the best idea though. Both the vaccine and running are going to stress your body and it is probably best to give into the effects and go with the flow, otherwise you risk exacerbating the impact on your body.

For most people the side effects are short lived and I actually had no side effects at all to the Astra Zeneca first jab

Great post JetsNanna . I have now had both my Pfizer vaccines and apart from a sore arm (not as sore after the second one) it was business as usual💉 👍💉

I had a very similar reaction.. Astra Zeneca jab early morning, then by late afternoon I couldn’t get warm and went to bed.. slept all evening, woke up hot about 1am (not unusual at my age!) straight back to sleep and just a bit of a headache in the morning..I wouldn’t actually say I felt ill at any point.. and I understand the second AZ is less likely to cause problems than the first..

I work at the vaccine centre in Stratford! I love it..and you're right...it's amazingly well organised. We're almost up to 1000 people a day now.

It's a little miracle...just shows what the NHS can do....and as someone said... imagine if we were a year into lockdown and there was _no_ vaccine.

Still jealous of Stephen Fry getting his done in Westminster Abbey though...

It's a joy, it really is. People are so happy/grateful/excited to be getting it. It's a lovely atmosphere to work in.

I’ve got my covid stabbing today in Preston. Going to run to it, about 7 miles (12k) and slightly down hill - I’m fairly regularly doing 10k now - so will have a couple of days off normally after a longer run, so if I get side effects they should have cleared by the next run day.

Oh, the vaccination centre is across the road from the bus station so will get the bus home.

Glad to read that you dodged any side effects.

I am probably at the lowest point I’ve been for a while with my running and have tended to give up after 20 minutes the last few weeks of trying to get out.

However I had my AZ vaccine 💉 on Saturday and had a good nights sleep with no ill effects and managed to run a decent 5K on Sunday afternoon.

Not saying that the AZ 💉 is performance enhancing, but it restored my running mojo 😜

Glad that you had no ill effects and if only it was performance enhancing. Maybe you were just more determined?! I am still slower than slow but I really don’t mind that because a slow jog is better than being indoors sat on the sofa.
