Week 3 done - sore calves

Well finished week 3 - seem to have improved my breathing and felt could run a little longer but had sore calves towards the end: not cramp but soreness.

What exercises can I do on rest day? Is this normal as not done any exercise before starting this? πŸ€”

I’d think you just rest and get ready to go again. Great the breathing is good, it’ll continue to get better and better. Well done, keep going and the magic will keep revealing itself to you along your journey.

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

Sore muscles could well be inadequate hydration, but stretching after every run and strengthening exercises linked to in the guide will help.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi, I also had sore calves, but I did the warming up & cooling down exercises, also did them on the days off.

I also found that I adapted how I ran, by using my thigh muscles to pick up my legs more & this helped.

Well done!

Hi - can I ask what warming up exercises you do? I do stretches after the run ( NHS link I found on here somewhere) I think I need to hold each stretch for longer! Will see how I go tomorrow at adapting how I run (actually it’s a very slow jog!) as am finding got nice rhythm going when jogging and also finding breathing a lot easier! Have watched videos re slow running and done some research on internet. Thanks for the advice. πŸ‘
