What shoes are you wearing?

Hi all! I’m wondering if there’s any trainer recommendations out there. I’m currently in a pair of 2 year old New Balance Fresh Foam which are in good condition considering they saw the through Half Marathon training two years ago. They were in a drawer for some time not really used after I lost the running bug. I thought I would treat myself to a new pair when I complete C25k which I’m doing to get my mojo back!

I’ve always been a fan of New Balance but wondered if you had any recommendations. I’m generally a neutral pronator, slightly high arch and one sensitive ankle which sometimes needs a little more support.

You can't beat trying on a suitable pair of shoes and selecting the most comfortable. My recommendation may be wholly unsuitable for you, so take recommendations with a pinch of salt. This guide to buying running shoes may help healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

I have a very high arch, under pronation and wide feet. I run on roads only. I had online gait analysis at Run and Become and it was suggested for me to get Brooks Adrenaline GTS D (wide). I took a week to get used to the shoes, just long walks. After that could not have been more happy with the trainers.

You like New Balance and I like Adidas and Nike. However, neither Adidas or Nike agree with my feet as much as Asics and New Balance (which my brain doesn't like). And Brooks? I can't run in Brooks although they are my main walking shoes. Why is all that? Your feet (unlike your brain) cannot tell colours and designs. They care about comfort. And the only way to find out what fits perfectly well is by visiting a specialist shop that offers gait analysis. People often take recommendations and even when they get injured they don't trace their hurt straight back to their running shoes, thinking they paid good money for the brand. And that's how runners make mistakes. I took recommendations and didn't figure out I was wrong until the second bad injury. When it comes to shoes, the most important part of your gear, I now don't take recommendations from anyone apart from a knowledgeable shop assistant who'll help me try and test a whole bunch of them.

Ankle issues - need a higher drop - Brooks are mostly 12mm.

Go on the site and use the shoe finder. There have 90 day money back guarantee of you don’t like them anyway. I’ve used that and sent some back after a good couple of months. I needed a low drop.

Ghost and adrenaline are popular styles but you’d have to research the support they give.
