Doggy running buddie?

Hi All,

Does anyone run with their dog? It seems such a shame to go on my own and leave him at home. Im going to take him tonight and give it a go. Any tips? Hes a huge German Shepherd so hes also great for the little bit of scary lane i need to go down.

Hi Gill

Depends on how he behaves. If he's happy to run along beside you then great. If he's prone to dart in front of you (like our terrier), then you're likely to be hitting the deck a lot. I think that generally, bigger dogs tend to be calmer so you should be OK with an alsatian.

Thanks. Its guna be our first outing tonight so can only try it and see. Might be short lived or the start of something good.

My dog a working cocker was ok, but he tends to want to go faster than me.

I run with my cockapoo. I can generally keep him off the lead and he stays nearby. But if we were running beside the road, I hook his lead over my arm and he trots alongside. I have tried running without him and hate it lol.

Just back from our first outing together and he was very good. Definitely take him again 👍

Always! I have 2 dogs! They run with me. Keeps my mind off what I’m doing and love the company. Enjoy!

I’ve tried with my cocker lots hence my user name RunWillie. He is so lazy and doesn’t want to run. Must be his show roots not working roots. Your dog looks like he will be more fit for purpose. If anything happens to my dogs, I would choose a running partner that was suitable for dark early morning runs 🐾❤️🏃‍♀️Your dog is awesome!

Yes, I love it!. It could go either way but hopefully your pal will be the perfect running partner. This wee man of mine, ozzie, surprised me x

Hi, he is huge! Your dog is likely to run ahead and pull a bit - it is natural for them to want to pull and they love it! I recommend you look into Cani-cross (CaniX) equipment for dog and you. FB has various pages devoted to running with your dog and folk can give good advice.

Equipment consists of - a human harness which goes around hips/lower back and dog is attached, using a ‘bungee’ lead, so you can run ‘handsfree’. Your dog needs a running harness which is designed to give more freedom of movement and has the clip further down the back. (Most of my posts show photos of Squiggy my Springer with his harness).

Dogs are great running pals Best of luck and have fun 😊🐾🐾

Thanks for the tip i will certainly look into one of those definitely. We ran for the 1st time last night. I won't say it was perfect but definitely a good foundation for both of us to work on. 😊

Oh my goodness. He is magnificent!

I take my boys with me. I used to hold their leads but then I bought a running belt with leads clipped on from Amazon. I swear my boys prefer it and feel that they’re running with me.
