I am at the end of Wk6 and feeling so proud of what I have achieved so far. I started my campaign to get fit and loose weight. My concern is I have not moved on the scales at all?? I am 81kg and eat approx between 1000 to 1500 calories a day. I drink at least 2 litres of water a day but I still dont see the scales moving in the right direction. π€I know others who are shedding weight, so it concerns me as to why I am not? Any help or suggestions would be greatly recieved. Thankyou π

Youβll not lose weight whilst doing the plan. You will however when you start running 5ks on a regular basis. A great way to lose weight without killing yourself (metaphorically speaking of course) is walking. On your rest days do a brisk 10,000 step walk. I know a lad who lost 18 stone in two years by just walking. People think the only way to lose weight is by painful gym sessions. Not true. And a lot of people quit because they find the gym too hard and lose motivation. Try walking and your weight will come down.
Hi, thanks for the guidance. Yes I am walking approx 10,000 to 15,000 steps a day as we have a lovely doggy π I wasnt expecting the weight to fall off as I know it is more about fitness. I was just worried that there maybe something wrong with me or I am not doing it right? Agreed I dont want to be doing the gym sessions as I love the outdoors. I am so proud of how much I have achieved and am definately going to continue to run as I never thought I could do this 6 weeks ago.....π
Be well proud of yourself for getting to week 6!- Personally, I would ditch the focus on 'weight loss' and 'calories' and make your priority 'improving fitness'. You've done massively brilliant getting to week 6, but I'm not even sure you are eating ENOUGH calories to burn fat!- you have to eat lots of good food - protein, veg etc to have enough fuel inside you. 1500 calories made up of 3 bags of crisps and a cake just ain't gonna do it!!I started C25K in September to get fitter- I've only lost about 4lbs but I look at least a stone lighter! Your fitness levels must have improved massively already , so concentrate on good fuel to keep you going - running doesn't burn a huge amount of calories, but it sure shifts a few inches! Keep going, you're doing brilliantly no matter what the scales say!
Thank you, yes completely agree with you. I do feel fitter than where I was 6 weeks ago. I am trying to focus on healthy eating such as veg and protien only, no carbs.....or very little (Sunday roast are a weakness). Try and fuel my run with a banana 30 mins before hand, which I have found helpful. I will try and stay off the scales and focus more on longer term results, I was just worried there was something I may not be doing correctly or there is something wrong with me....
It's good to know that I am not the only one....so I feel better already.
You'll do great !- Sunday roast is my fave too!- and we've all got to have SOME carbs. Just look at how much healthier you are already - the weight and inches will sort themselves out!- good fuel and consistency with excercise and running is the key. Keep going to a healthier you.π€ΎββοΈ
Thank you, yes I think I will need to look more closely at the calories and the food I am eating to help with my overall weight. The plan has been amazing in the fact that I have achieved so much already and I am feeling so proud of myself. πππ I do feel fitter, I will focus on more longer term goals than quicker fixes. So bring on the next 3 weeks.......and beyond πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Don't reduce below 1000 or 1500! Actually a dietician said the only time physiologically that our bodies would be doing a lot of exercise on very limited food would be some kind of emergency, esp if stress is involved too, and it can make the body hold tighter in the face of such a threat! So yes, eat good food like Teresafaith says... And be kind and patient with yourself...
Thank you, that's interesting to know. Ok, so I will be very strict with what I eat....and keep to just protien, veg and fruit. I think the key word is patience.....I need to learn this. Thank you π
It might be possible that you are not eating enough plus you are burning calories while running. If you burn to many calories per day your body might be storing some of your food as fat to give you a energy source because it thinks you are starving, it's your survival instinct kicking in, we all have it, it's called starvation mode, you can find info about it online, you should look it up.
There is a weightloss and a healthy eating forum on here that you might look into if haven't already..
Thanks Jimtom, I will definately look it up. This is a good point. Maybe I need more protien to fuel my body for running. I will check out the forum and thank you for your advice, it's much appreciated. π
I am no weight-loss expert but I do know (and not many beginners do tbh) that running or any cardio/endurance sport doesn't use many calories unless you do an awful lot of it and at the correct intensity, and that doesn't necessarily mean fast. In most cases, it means slow - really slow.
Running and weight-loss: various scientific studies have shown that:
- running burns 1 calories for every kilogram of bodyweight, per kilometer.
So... if you weigh 81kg, that means you'll burn 81 calories if you run (whatever that means) 1 kilometer. So if (when!) you eventually manage 5k ... that's 81 x5 = 405 calories. But of course, that equation changes if you start to lose weight... and you have to start running further & further.
To simplify that, in general terms, running 1 mile (say at moderate speed) burns only 100 calories . So that's 300 calories for 5k (3.1 miles). Which... really isn't much if you think what 300 calories is ... 2-3 small glasses of wine? Half a cheeseburger?
Someone running a marathon (26.2 miles/42 km) will burn approximately 2500 calories. And of course they will need to eat plenty of the right fuel, before, during and after their run.
PMcL1966 is correct re: walking - it's a great way to lose weight and to keep active.
As for your diet, please be careful. Perhaps you'd like to follow on Instagram our works choir musical director who has been following a low(ish) carb, high (good) fat regime (paleo?) which, coupled with running 5k regularly has seen her lose 4 stone since last last summer.
Have a look through her photos (lots of food!) here:
