So, here I am again. It’s been a while. I moved to the Isle of Wight in March 2020 to retire with my husband. We had all sorts of plans which mostly came to nothing following lockdown, the week after we moved. So here I am almost a year later, another year older (I will be 59 in July), slightly fitter due to the miles of dog walking we have done to fill the hours. But, I’m ready to start running again - I think? My husband thinks I’m too old and should just accept that I am never going to have the body of a model. Well I know that, but I’ve done C25k before and I want to do it again. Need lots of encouragement please, particularly from the more “mature” people! W1R2 completed this morning and I feel good!

Welcome back to the forum and well done on your decision.

Why write yourself off before you are even sixty?

In the guide below you will see mention of an 83 year old graduate...........

I will be starting C25K again very shortly after completing chemotherapy recently........ said the 65 year old.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

I started this year, at 68. So ................

🙋🏻‍♀️

Started the day after my 65th birthday in August. Graduated with a 3.3km Distance at 30 minutes. Continue to run (jog!) 3 times a week, now concentrating on building up to longer distances. My 5km takes me about 48/49 minutes.

If you’re feeling good, that’s all there is to it! It’s about getting fit, not developing the body of a model 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

Happy running! 🐌🐢🏃🏻‍♀️🥰🌟

Too old! Too old! 😳.

Take no notice ! Crack on 🏃‍♀️👍🙂

Your are in the perfect running spot! Tons of running potential there and a huge run club fraternity there who arrange year long fun and comradeship. Runs and races for all. Check out Splash and Dash 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️😃🏅

We have our very own lovely IOW running gal here. I’ve met up with her, as have others here. See recent post and pic on the Marathon community. You can pop over there any time, as with all the other communities on here 👍. I went on hols there for a week, one blissfully warm summer a few years back. I ran up the coastal path from Sandown (easy to follow til I got to NodePoint)

refreshed my supplies at the seafront cafe, ran back via Culver and Bembridge Downs and into the sea at Yaverland. i can’t wait to get back there

C25k is without doubt the best thing since sliced bread 😃🏃‍♀️👍

I am 69 and on Week 6, dont care how slow I am or when others speed past me, dont care about the wobbly bits, what I love is the sense of achievement after each session and yes read the 'essential reading' very important

Sounds like someone is bit jealous of you making changes for yourself and own well-being there, i’m not sure where the body of a model comes in......I’ve yet to get one of those.....🤔.......runners are all ages and all shapes and sizes... ...invite him to join in!

Do it, do it, do it! You’ll get all the support you need here!

Too Old?!! How dare he 😬

I graduated last July and last month I ran a half marathon! I’m 67. Love to run 3 times a week. I’m not fast, but have the occasional burst of speed if the wind is blowing in the right direction 😊

There are many mature runners on here. You will get nothing but encouragement and support! Welcome! 👍

Sorry. I am only 57 years old and wear a baseball cap backwards (although only if the sun is behind me), so I can't possibly help. If it helps, just do it - and tell his nibs to do it too.

I started in Feb 19 just before my 66th birthday. I’m super slow but still trotting along Southsea seafront so I’ll wave at you as you run - because you’re going to!

Oh my goodness! No such thing as too old! I’m 63 , retired from the NHS at 61 and I am still running . I’ve been running for 7 years now ,and I still enjoy it. Running is good for the soul, mind and body( if your careful of course😂😂). Please just get your running shoes back on and go for it ! Naughty hubby!

Go girl go!🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️😀😀

You are not too old! I started at the same age as you and for the same reason. I had retired and I was fed up with people asking me what I was going to do with my time, expecting me to say jigsaw puzzles and crochet. It's not that there's anything wrong with those two activities, but I like confounding people's expectations. Ok, so I don't have the figure of a model and I will never compete in the Olympics, but, at 60, I can run a half marathon, I am slimmer, fitter and more alert than I was at 50. So, go you!👊

You are a youngster ! I am 69 and my wife is 61. We started running in March and now run 2 x 5k runs ( and sometimes 3) per week. Go for it, you will not regret it !

It’s fantastic but very hilly! Hard to find a flat route!

I hear you! I live half way up a hill in a hilly town so there’s no avoiding it! Just have to think it will make us stronger 💪🏽😆

Hi! I think that there are numerous benefits to running except looking like a model - it's good for your heart, your mind, it gives you stamina, it makes you feel great, and strengthens your muscles. You can do it at any age - my mum is 51 next week and has just started C25K. Please don't ever feel like age is a reason not to do something! Good luck :) xx

You’re pretty much the same age as me and I graduated in late August. I was overweight (still am but less so now) and had done no exercise except for walking in years. If I can do it, you can. Age is immaterial if the will is there. You have the time, space and most importantly the motivation to do the program so crack on and enjoy every second of it 😊

I'll just add my 2pworth here - I'm 66, started c25k in April 2020 when I was 65, have run three times a week pretty much since then, love the variety you can find, the achievement, the fun! Do it! x
