Does anyone have any recommendations for running shoes suitable for winter and running on pavements?

Which shoes are best
Personally I think shoes are very eh yeah personal. I mean, a shoe can be perfect for person A, but feel horrible for person B. I'd suggest to find a specialized shop, tell them your wishes and try our a few shoes.
Welcome to the forum.
The best shoes are the most comfortable ones offered to you as appropriate after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop, as explained in the post about shoes linked to in the guide to the plan which is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
Shoes that are perfect for one runner may be wholly unsuitable for you........we are all different, so take specific recommendations with a pinch of salt.
Enjoy your journey.
You want a general road running shoe. What you should do is visiting a store and try on lots and lots of pairs and buy the most comfortable ones.
I have a great pair of trainers which I bought from Run and Become - they do a free gait analysis. I actually didn't buy them for running, my podiatrist just recommended getting some great trainers after years of mangling my feet in heels, but now I'm running I could not be more grateful to have a decent pair of shoes!
Some companies make specific 'winter' running shoes - Nike and Ascis spring to mind, but depending on what sort of winter protection you want they'll still vary quite a lot. Usually it means they're more waterproof than offering any sort of additional grip.
Stay away from trail shoes - I've seen a few people use them on pavements thinking they'll give better grip, which they do but you'll burn through the tread in about 3 runs!
If you're worried about ice, my thoughts would be to just not run on those days or wait until lunchtime when the sun has had time to melt it.
