So i got my first 25 minute run done yesterday. Managed it just about. Was soo ready to stop when Laura allowed me to.
So my partner (who is an athlete all his life) and has ran all his life, he tells me I'm not pushing myself hard enough. My relative effort on strava is not always increasing. Should I push my self more? I feel like I'm doing really well but he thinks I have the ability to do better. Not sure how to feel about it π€

Well done on your achievement. It is very easy for those who have been athletes all their life to suggest you should push harder, but that goes against all the prevailing advice for new runners.
C25K is just the first steps, designed to gently develop your stamina and endurance while keeping injury risk minimal...........if you push harder you will definitely be more likely to get injured.
The old fashioned "no pain, no gain" approach to exercise was responsible for many people just giving up, because they found it too hard or got injured.
Carry on building your body strength at the slow and steady pace and in time, after C25K, you can begin to work on extending yourself, getting faster or running further.
Only a small proportion of graduates from this forum who responded to a poll, managed 5k in 30 minutes by graduation healthunlocked.com/couchto5....
Graduation requirements are that you complete three thirty minute runs, regardless of distance.
According to studies, slow runners live longer than those who push further and faster and also longer than the inactive population.
I would ask your husband exactly what he means by "better".
Thanks, I must ask him!! 6 or 7 weeks ago I was uncomfortable with running 60 seconds and struggled lots in first weeks with stitches etc. Maybe he needs reminded!! Yes will keep steady as you say and maybe just try the 60 seconds at end a tiny bit faster as the podcasts suggest. (Which i was not able to do yesterday!)I definitely don't want an injury. I've never been in hospital overnight in my life before and want to keep it that way as long as i can!! Thanks
Congratulations on completing run 3 of week 6, you are now OFFICIALLY a RUNNER, tell your partner in the words of Frank Sinartra I am running "My Way" you could cause an injury if you ran faster than you did today, good luck, onwards and upwards to week 7 ππΎ.
Thank you so much, yes I let the podcast run right to end to hear Laura tell me too!! Lol Thats good idea, we all individuals!
Yes I dont want an injury so will keep steady pace similar next week for my 3 25 minute runs if I rightly remember it is. Plan to attempt the 60 seconds faster the next time though, we will see how it goes! Fingers crossed!
If you can run the last 60 seconds faster, that's great. If you can't, that's great too. If you can't finish the last 60 seconds at all because you pushed too hard at the start, then, er, that's clearly not great!
Maybe you could go faster, but we are all learning. The most important thing to learn is how not to get injured.
