W8r3- run 2 was my worst yet psychologically, actually stopped twice as went off far too fast. Today made big effort not to go faster than my 'natural pace' which at the moment is exactly 8min/km.
Ran past a bloke sort of power walking but not really pushing it. 5 mins later he overtook me! Tried to see the funny side
My goal is 4km in 30mins then after finishing the plan to use the 10% rule to get to 5k in 40mins.

Don't worry about that power walker, some of them can "powerwalk" a 5K sub 25 minutes, I was a spectator at a 5K last year and a powerwalker completed in in 28 minutes.
You can repeat any runs or week's if you wish to, take a extra day off and try that run again or if you feel OK go on to run 1 of week 9 😊 🏃🏾
Do you listen to music while you run? If so, make a really slow playlist. I have Dire Straits Romeo and Juliet and George Harrison Got My Mind Set On You - that slow! It will keep you steady.
The difference between running and walking isn't speed. Runners take two feet off the floor at some point during their stride. That requires a lot of energy and makes it much more stressful on the body than walking, even power walking!
At least he was power walking. I once took so long getting past an elderly gentleman who was out taking his dog for a walk that he ended up offering me a sweet "because I clearly needed the energy" (cheeky devil!).
There will always be someone faster than us; faster, younger, fitter, whatever it might be. It's really hard in the beginning to let go of the natural ego reaction. We can't compare apples and pears, I usually find they are long legged blokes out for a quick short run whilst I've been out hours and am still shuffling along like the Duracell bunny... Still pinches though!
Comparison is the thief of joy. Enjoy YOUR run, let them enjoy their walk/ run/ whatever it might be. 👍🏻😁 (the day will come that you will overtake a cyclist on a hill and it will all be worth it!🤣🤣)
Vogueskater I feel your pain. Hate it when sometimes I manage to catch up with someone who is walking ahead of me and then have the mind battle of (1) do I try to overtake them, and then not able to keep up the pace, having to slow up thus getting in their way, or (2) stay behind them huffing and puffing....
It's part of running to be overtaken I'm afraid - even by walkers! Just remember why you're doing this and as long as it isn't to compete at the next Olympics use your own improvements as your yardstick. You've got to W8R3 - that's a fantastic achievement on its own 👍.
