Hiya!

A few years ago I joined a Start to Run group and went solo after that was finished. In the end I succeeded in running 7K in 1 go without stopping. But then winter came and combined with the fact that I don't actually like running, I quit.

Now it has been itching whenever I saw someone run. I have not done anything active it these past years and am rather unhealthy (quickly injured, bad hips, arthritis, etc despite having just entered the 40-years). The itch grew worse and yesterday I took my first step to restart running.

I did W1R1 of the C25K app and I must say, it went better then I anticipated! Ok, I run slower than a snail, but that is the speed that I feel comfortable with and the speed at which I can do this. If I would go faster, I'd not be able to keep running. Snail speed IS a speed too ;).

Despite the fact that I don't like running or jogging or whatever you wish to call my snail-pace, I am itching to go 'run' again! And the weather is nice today too. Alas, today is to be a rest day and my muscles do tell me so. Stupid rest day...

Cheers, Blacky

It's funny, I think I enjoy running in general a lot more this time round (I got to Week 9 back in 2018, then quit!). It's as if the first time was about proving I could do it but the second time has been about fulfilling the actual desire to do it!

Good luck with it all, I'm positive it'll be for keeps this time!

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

Slowing down to the recommended easy conversational pace makes it more achievable and for most, more enjoyable.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Snails are good. 🐌🐌🐌

So are 🦥 🦥🦥 and 🐢🐢🐢

Embrace them! 😉

My virtual running buddies here - they are mostly more advanced than I am - reliably (?!) inform me that I can be 🐌 or 🦥 or 🐢 while also being 🦌, just one moving ‘majestically’. There’s a whole menagerie to embrace on c25k. Enjoy!
