Tomorrow I start couch to 5k with asthma. With 1 failed attempt under my belt from a few years ago this time I’m determined to finish it.

I also have asthma, I take my Ventolin inhaler with me and use it fairly soon in the 30 minutes. The cold air makes it worse. I just posted a question about breathing, above. Maybe that's the key. I'll follow your post.

Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

I take mine before I go. Admittedly, I would say mine is relatively mild.

To begin with I used it in the middle of a run too.

I think that was more because I thought I needed it rather than actually needing it.

Take it with you as it's niggling worry if you don't have it on you and you will find there are enough running gremlins in your head trying to stop your progress so don't give yourself one more!

As for the cold weather, I'm not sure even I can change that. But keep an eye on the local weather forecasts and be prepared to postpone some runs, better a day off not running than several days off ill.

I hear you! I have asthma, and have struggled with the cooler air. I take the preventer before going out, have a glug of water to moisten the throat, walk very briskly for 5 mins, and wear a buff over my nose and mouth, and all these things have really helped. If I don’t feel my breathing is quite right after the 5mins brisk walk, I do a few more minutes. Also, on not so great asthma days, I do intervals run/walk. On the whole though, running has very much improved the asthma. Hope this helps. Good luck. 🤞
