i did the first three minutes running very slowly then three minutes (of the first five) . then my body just stopped! without a by your leave! i beg your pardon! my mind was raring to go. i am disheartened by this. if i can't do this what about the rest? we are not even half way thru! when jo said 'now you are a runner' (cos i walked/ran to the rest of the app so i heard her) i felt like a fraud... cos i am not. it had been going so well recently and really helped me with my life in general, but i did about 10% of the running programme today and walked the rest. this has had a bad effect on me for many reasons. it was totally beyond me, apparently. i so want to graduate. i want it badly. i want to get fit, mostly. i won't stop but i don't know what to do.i guess the answer is to 'get up again (and do it) over n over' (thank you madonna) until it's done.

Hi, don’t worry about it, we all have bad outings every now and again. Just put it behind you and try again in a couple of days or so. You know you’ve done three weeks of running so far and you can get out there again. Good luck!

Was that from a record by Madonna? 🎵🎶 I seem to remember it🤔 Wherever it’s from, it’s the only attitude to have! 🙂👍

Sorry to hear about your shortened run, maybe you could try a week 3 run again, see how that goes, have a few days rest, dont give up, you wont be the first to have to go back a few runs, and i'm sure you'll get help on here! 😀

You are not a fraud, this was just a day when it didn't come together.

I don't think you need to go back to an earlier run, just repeat this one.

You say you just 'stopped', if this was heavy legs then maybe look at how much water you drink and make sure you drink water regularly throughout the day.

Good luck, your next run will be different - we all have this type of run sometimes!

changing-woman profile image
changing-womanGraduate in reply toRoxdog

oh thank you for your kind warm posts to me. yes. i didn't drink at all, you re right there too. only tea. you cheer me up. (and today is the day for that!) right, off i go x

changing-woman profile image
changing-womanGraduate in reply tochanging-woman

i was all set for it too. raring to go.

Roxdog profile image
RoxdogGraduate in reply tochanging-woman

Oh well, you probably weren't hydrated enough! I wouldn't drink pints of water before you go out, but make sure you are consistently drinking water and definitely at least a glassful before heading out. I bet that will fix things! If your mindset was good along with your breathing, then running out of energy could definitely be linked to hydration.

changing-woman profile image
changing-womanGraduate in reply toRoxdog

right. right. onwards and upwards (upwards?)

nowster profile image
nowsterGraduate in reply tochanging-woman

Tea is fine for hydration. It's just that you have to drink a lot of it to get to the level that's good.

Assuming a typical mug is 250ml (about half a pint), you need to have drunk at least ten mugs' worth. A teacup is about half that.

changing-woman profile image
changing-womanGraduate in reply tonowster

interesting...thanks x i drink about 6 mugs a day (i love my tea i do) so i still need to top that up with about a litres water...a day... run or no run...

Don’t dwell too much. We all have runs like that. As the old saying goes- If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again. Next time try to get a little further even if you don’t complete the run. Every little step is a victory. The treadmill is very boring which doesn’t help. Make yourself a great playlist. I find that helps me.

Don’t dwell. Move on. Try again another day x

ah thanks for answering dear frizz... yes it was tough on me, i am still very upset, but what you say is right, my BF just said similar to me... quite right the both of you x ever onwards :-)

I didn’t drink enough before I started this program so I bought some 2 litre bottles of water. I opened one in the morning with the aim of finishing it by evening. I always have a glass beside me now and sip away at it and I do now have a full 2 litres of water every day. It’s become a habit. That along with a few cups of tea keeps me topped up! It’s not great for the environment I know but if you use them to start you off then you can go to glasses of tap water.

Try not to overthink todays run. It doesn’t matter how long it takes you to do the program...You are doing it and that’s the most important thing!

changing-woman profile image
changing-womanGraduate in reply toRoseDay

thanks for your kind reply...how many glasses of water must we drink then per day...? x

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply tochanging-woman

As a runner you should be drinking 2.5 to 3 litres a day , even on non run days.

Come on DTC, chin up, if you want this bad enough you’ll be stubborn and determined, you’ll refuse to take no for an answer and you’ll keep trying until you succeed. We all have bad runs it’s part of the journey, but the secret is not to let them get you down, see them as practice runs and stay positive and focused 👍

I managed to get to the last running interval but had to have a longer walk before starting it. I did this 3 times, so I repeated Week 4. I think first time it was definitely physical but by the end it must have been mostly mental because when I repeated Week 4 it all went well Of course it's not easy but it is achievable.

Maybe even on your next run you'll smash it and realise it was all in the mind.

Don't be hard on yourself. Having a little setback is what makes you stronger. Plus any repeated runs is just more mileage under the belt.

oh thanks for that rennur, it was just awful from start to finish x lol

Oh darling - I know just how it feels. Don’t let it hold you back. You’re getting out there and doing it, and that’s the main thing. I try not to get too Disheartened by a bad run but I know it can get you down. Just look at this one as practise and as Madonna said - get into the groove! This was a one off - you can do it! Ps - I also am a tea demon xx

Don't know where you live, but where I am it was very windy today I had to work much harder. There are so many things that can impact on our runs.

So this was a practice run, have your rest day and then try again, slowly.

These might help 🐌 🐌 🐌 🐌

changing-woman profile image
changing-womanGraduate in reply toJell6

thanks jell x yes they help x ps. am on a treadmill -which i don't enjoy- due to there being nowhere to run near me . am in mega busy city centre full of sight seeing tourists all the year round

Don’t worry, we’ve all had runs where we haven’t completed it or it was tough. Just have another go after a good day’s rest and see how you go. Even one second past where you got upto on this run will be an achievement to celebrate🙂

So many factors affect your run, ultimately how you feel on the day, I try to see these things as a challenge to conquer, even if I have to break it down to a few mins extra a day, everything can be a personal best if you believe it. You can do this, just keep putting one foot in front of the other, stop

When you can’t go on then try again another day, aim to beat your time by 30 seconds if the run is too long to tackle in 1 go. Slow and steady, relax and enjoy, it’s about the journey, not the destination.

PS I’ve tried running in a face mask, you soon adapt. I tried C25K before on a treadmill and found it too hard as less distractions, running outside on pavements in busy areas will have many beautiful distractions, the run will be over before you know it. I find running heightens your senses to you surroundings, I’d love to run around Italy one day.
