Aww no, that’s not good news. You’ll have to dig Joe Wicks out again for a daily keep fit session in your lounge. Hope you keep well xx

Sorry about that HattieCooke, you mean that you will have to isolate for two weeks with no running, you can try some indoor exercises from YouTube.

Do you mean now?

You’ll be fine for 2 weeks.

My friend is isolating but he’s doing a 365 day running streak so he ran up and down the back alley 40 times to get to a mile 🤣

That’s real bad luck Hattie....Pity you don’t have a treadmill. Maybe you could do some sort of work out, like Jo Wicks or something, or sit ups to work on strengthening your core in preparation for when you can get back out there.

As stated in the guide to the plan, healthunlocked.com/couchto5... you lose no significant condition in the first two weeks of non running.

After that loss of condition is gradual.

All any of us can do after a lay off is to go out and see what we can comfortably manage, then build back up gently, using C25k or something similar as a guide to weekly increase.

Plenty of opportunity to improve your running with some strengthening exercises indoors.

We all have setbacks, but a determination to get back out there when you can will see you through.

That’s a shame Hattie... I am 2 runs away from graduation and am going to be delayed as I’m on nights and don’t have the motivation when I wake up after a 4/5 hour sleep 🙄 or the energy when I get home from my 12 hour shift 🙄 nhs and proud

Sorry to hear that! As others have said, try some other type of exercise whilst you're cooped up, even if it's just jogging on the spot.

Have you enough provisions for the duration?

Hattie...really sorry to hear your news. Hope you and your partner are both coping ok...tough time. Lots of sound advice from Iannoda and others re exercise etc. I know you'll soon get back into your regular running routine. My neighbour ran round her garden during last lockdown, her husband was shielding. Main thing is to stay safe and connected with others during your enforced isolation. Take good care. Big hugs. Xx🙋🙋🙋

Not fair.

You can concentrate on arms, core and upper body (and running on the spot).

It'll be over soon.

Stay safe.

Hi HattieCooke, I'm in the same position and don't have any outside space, so I guess it's just various exercise routines for me. But as IannodaTruffe says our loss of fitness will be gradual. Prioritise staying healthy and doing what other exercise you can do. We won't be alone in this. Beyond gutted that I can't get out there though. Keep us updated on how you do when you do manage to get out there. Stay safe.

One week max from where you are when your isolation starts.

I was back just one week after my isolation. However, transitioned from pavement to more grass and that makes runs harder anyway break or not.

Hi, you can still walk and run on the spot even if it's not entirely the same it'll help you to maintain your fitness level and continue to train. Tough times. There are some great indoor walking workouts also on you tube. Good luck to both of you

I am just nearing the end of my self isolation. I am fortunate to have a small drive at the side of the house, it only takes 10 steps to get from one end to the other. But I have tried to go out every day and either walk or slow run. Heaven only knows how many thousands of laps I’ve done in the last two weeks😂. It’s sent me quite dizzy 🥴. Looking forward to getting out on Saturday at last!! Just enjoy what you can. PS. Our wii fit also got an airing for the first time in years.

Sorry to hear that hope all’s well. Try Pahla B indoor running on YouTube I’ve done it a few times when life as got in the way and I couldn’t get out it’s not the same but keeps you moving.

Hi, I’m sorry to hear about your husband and consequently you having to stay home for two weeks but just to read you that 2 weeks of little or no exercise will have very little effect on your fitness. I’ve had 3 weeks off due to injury and managed to go back where I stopped at week 7. Hope all goes well and you get back at it in a couple of weeks.

OK, so in 2 weeks time, suggest you fall back to Week 5 or 6, which you feel more comfortable with. Honestly, you won't lose much fitness in that time.

Firstly hope you are both ok and any symptoms are mild! Two weeks off shouldn’t be too bad... just take it easy on the first few runs thereafter! In the meantime, find some indoor exercises to do - YouTube has loads. There’ll (a) keep your muscles supple and (b) save your sanity and give you focus - 14 days self isolation is no fun / done it once when I had to come back to the U.K...

I sympathise with your situation. I started exercising in May after tipping the scales at my heaviest. I started C2 5k in June and still haven't finished. I have had to self isolate three times due to covid cases with work colleagues and on Monday of this week my Wife (a paediatric Nurse) tested positive so it's self isolation bout 4. I have managed to shed 17lb and am on the borderline of a healthy weight according to my BMI but the outdoor exercise is taking a sabbatical until life is more stable.

I was ok after two weeks’ quarantine. In fact first run back was really quite good for me 🐌🐌🐌 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hattie don't feel too bad you may be saving some one's life by not spreading it, there is plenty of time, it is never to late to start again. Good luck.

That’s bad news Hattie, but I know you won’t let it stop you graduating when you can. Stay strong, stay safe.
