Cautious return from the injury couch

So it was three weeks ago today that I hobbled home from W4R1. I found out that I have an unstable ankle and the running was aggravating where the Achilles attaches to the bone and the corresponding bursa. After having a couple of physio sessions and some orthotics for my shoes my ankle feels so much better.

At my last physio session he didn’t tell me not to run... he said not to run until I was wearing the orthotics all day ✅ (I’ve been increasing an hour a day) and the inflammation was gone ✅ (although I was playing is it a tiny bit puffy or isn’t it? This morning but as there was absolutely no tenderness I decided it was ok).

Now maybe I should’ve waited until I see the physio again tomorrow, but I thought sod it I’m going 🙄.

I decided to try a week 3 run and took it nice and easy ready to stop if needed. I was quite surprised my fitness held up as much as it did. My ankle seemed to be fairly good, it was only in the last minute or so that I could feel it. I wouldn’t even say it was a twinge more that I could feel my ankle when normally I wouldn’t be aware if it.

Came home and after stretching put some ice on it and it feels all fine. I’m just hoping that the physio will be in agreement with me that I was ready to run on it 🙈 (I swear that they can find niggles where there were none before)

But the best thing is that I feel absolutely buzzing to be back running, I have missed it even though I’ve been doing it such a short time.

The appointment went well thank you Linda.

I did another week 3 run on Tuesday with no ill effects so I’m planning to pick up at W4R2 as I did manage to complete W4R1 albeit with a hobble during the cool down.
