I'm confused! Also, why does my watch tell me I've done a km in a certain time, but when it goes onto my phone it says its taken me longer?

In the context of running, "pace" can mean the inverse of speed. I.e., whereas speed is measured in units of distance per unit of time (e.g. miles per hour or Km per minute), pace is measured in units of time per unit of distance (e.g. minutes per mile or Km).

Pace is time divided by distance, eg 6m/k, whereas speed is distance divided by time eg 10k/hour. Those examples are both exactly the same in respect of how much ground you will cover in a given time.

Pace is time per distance.

Speed is distance per time.

Pace (in min/km) = 60 / (speed in km/h)

eg. 6 min/km = 10 km/h
