I tripped and fell on an uneven pavement last Monday while on a run. Grazed palms, bruised elbow, grazed and painful [while walking up and down stairs] left knee, and snooker ball - size swelling on right knee which has left me with a massive bruise around the whole of my knee [yes, I did use ice and elevation]. It's a thing of beauty and I would post a pic but some might find it offensive and I wouldn't want to put anyone off their food. I'm notorious for tripping over unevenness even while walking and I believe the odd fall is par for the runner's course? However, I'm 69 and have osteopenia [one of the reasons that I run] so would like to avoid a repeat!! Probably asking the impossible, but besides restricting my running route to tarmac and avoiding pavements and consciously trying to pick my feet up all of the time [easier said than done], is there anything else I can do to mitigate the risk or effects of a fall?
One the plus side: I got up and carried on running [determined to reach 30 minutes]; I'm back in the saddle - just missed Wednesday's run - despite eye rolls and "Is that wise?" from my better half; didn't get a hole in my brand new, merino wool running top that I sourced from New Zealand and that took 3 months to arrive and cost a small fortune when the ridiculous import duty was added. Every cloud and all that......

Really good to see you didn’t just pack it in. You have given me the inspiration to continue. Thank you.
Well done on keeping going! I wonder if you do any balance work? I find yoga really helps - I do 'yoga with Adriene' free sessions online, but there are lots of others.
In that case, I'm sure it was the paving stone at fault. Not while running, but I had an unfortunate incident with wet leaves last autumn. Could happen to anyone, but I guess the fitter we are, the less likely we are to break anything!
Merino jumper wise, I got a fab one from Aldi about five years ago for £15.99. I take care of it and it’s been brilliant. Just got another one last week from Aldi and I think it was £17.99👍🙂
