I am using My Fitness Pal app which links to the garmin I wear when I do my run. The calories burned during the exercise automatically pull through into MFP and you can create a plan for yourself which MFP will then give you an amount of calories you should be sticking to to lose the target weight you want (that you enter at the beginning when you create your profile). You can also look up almost any food item in MY Fitness Pal to find the calorie content and it will automatically add it if you select it... dead easy 🙌🏻

It’s very satisfying to see that the calories burned add to your total so you can eat a bit more than you’d normally (without the exercise).

Hope this makes sense. If you have a fitness watch, like a Fitbit or garmin, it is very inspiring.

Good luck 👍.

I use MyFitnessPal too, it’s really good for tracking calories and macros and will help you to work out how many you need to achieve your weight loss/maintenance goals. It works with my Fitbit but I track my runs and walks on MapMyRun which is part of the same family as MyFitnessPal so works really well.

One word of warning though, most apps and trackers, MMR and MFP included, usually overestimate calorie burn from exercise by a considerable amount. They also don’t take into account that you could have burned some of those calories by lying in bed so they don’t count over and above normal daily calorie burn. So if you eat back all your exercise calories, you could easily find you are eating too much.

Have fun and good luck!
