Can’t run tomorrow for time reasons . Thinking of running today. Feel ok. On wk 7 run 2 ? Any advice gladly received
Would I be ok to run two consecutive days? - Couch to 5K
Would I be ok to run two consecutive days?
Definitely not advised untill you have been running for around 6 to 12 months as you are leaving yourself open to injury
As explained in the program guide .
Your muscles are repairing on your non run days and if you run you could EASILY end up with a torn muscle
Cheers. I sort of knew the answer but needed to be told . I appreciate your time. I’ll try to fit it in tomorrow. Really don’t want to cause any injuries at my age 😂
I know, it's frustrating some times !
I had 16 days off with injury after week 8 run 1 ( a different reason) and it's not fun
I do think that 'rest' days would more properly be called 'recovery' days, because 'recovery' is what's happening on the things that are referred to 'rest' days.
'Recovery' implies a process of healing and repairing, which is essential whereas 'rest' suggests doing nothing much of any consequence.
It’s not worth the risk of injury. One extra rest day is so much better than lots of injury days/ weeks/ months! 😄
I agree with all given advice before me 🙏 I was a bit naughty when I started C25k and skipped a few rest days as I was feeling good and energetic but as soon as I received the advice of follow runners 🏃♂️ 🏃♀️On here I stopped and (touch wood) so far so good. Not worth it to sort out the pain afterwards.
Enjoy your running 🏃♀️/ rest days😂
Don’t run on consecutive days DMG64 - if you really can’t run tomorrow you should wait the extra day. It’s not worth risking injury!
When you run, the impact creates microtears in your muscles, which repair and strengthen on your rest days, not while running. Without rest, repair and strengthening are compromised and injury risk increased.
To quote Brad Beer, (Running.Physio and host/creator of The Physical Performance Show podcasts - superb by the way)
"The only training you're benefiting from, is the training you're recovering from."
It takes 1-2 years of regular running for your body to become fully adapted to the rigours of it. As a beginner, you're putting your body through a lot of impact that it isn't to. Be kind to your body and let it recover!
Don't do it!! Take 2 recovery days, do something active but not running - and enjoy them!
