Still on week 1, but so excited that I've finally started? Any tips on breathing whilst running?

Hi, well done for starting πŸ˜¬πŸ‘

You need to run slowly, then you shouldn't have a problem breathing .

You should be slow enough so you could speak full sentences without gasping for breath .

If not , it's too fast which is what most people try to do at first .

Slow it down until you feel it's too slow then slow it down even more 😬

I'll try that, thanks! Does feel like if I slow down anymore I'll be going backwards! πŸ˜‚

It’ll sort itself out when you get through 5-8 minute runs. Just breathe however you can for now πŸ‘πŸ½

Welcome to the forum and well done

on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

There is some advice on breathing in the guide, but basically you need to run at a pace at which you can hold a clear ungasping conversation.

Enjoy your journey.

Me, I try and match my breathing to my running and not the other way around.

Instead of trying to "catch my breath" when it gets a bit difficult lungs-wise, I slow my pace down as much as I need to do my lungs can "recover and refill" as it were :)

Hope this helps you, and wishing you many happy miles in your future :)
