Consolidation run 2 --- and on to 5kπŸ˜€

Got up early to beat the heat and decided to try a different route which I thought was flat. It's an old disused railway line popular with walkers and cyclists. My plan was to run at a very steady pace and try to get up to 5k as I'd been running about 4.2k in the 30 mins at graduation. So after a detour as the road was closed due to the HS2 works I finally got started at a different point than originally intended. Did a warm up walk and then started. Noticed after a bit that the track wasn't flat at all but was on a slight incline and I was running downhill but no worries. I just kept plodding on until I got to 2.7k. Turned around at that point and estimated a 2.3k run back (to take me to 5k) and then a 0.5k or so warm down walk to get me back to the car. Definitely noticed the upward incline on the way back. Paced myself but noticed the increased heart rate on my watch on the uphill stretch. So took my time and ran to 5k and a bit more to make sure I'd done itπŸ˜‚πŸ‘That's another first for me as never actually run 5k before. There is talk about the railway line closing when HS2 arrives which will be a real shame as it's a lovely quiet spot at 6:30 amπŸ˜‚πŸ˜

Thank you. I'd set myself a target and stuck to it. So pleased overall. Am going to do a slow 5 k each week now for one of my three runsπŸ˜‚πŸ‘

That’s the best way to do it!πŸ˜ƒ That’s exactly what I’m doing! I’m working a little harder on the other 2 runs- but a shorter distance, and every Friday doing a nice slow and steady 5kπŸ˜πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ Yesterday’s consolidation run was horrendous though, the heat got to me and I’ve also ended up with shin splintsπŸ™ˆ

I must admit I avoid the heat like the plague and much prefer the cool of morning. Sorry about your injury and hope you get up and back on track soonπŸ‘πŸ˜

So do I normally, not sure what I was thinking🀣 my shins not too bad today! I think I just need to keep all my next few runs slow and steady- keep making the mistake of starting my runs too fast and then either injuring myself or exhausting myself🀣

Yes take it steady next few to recover fully. I've found drinking loads of water helps and I've bought a massage stick (like a rolling pin) to use on my legs and lower back to iron out any knotsπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I’ve found that if I’ve not drank enough the day before and on the day of a run I never do as well! Oh my I need one of those!!! Will add that to my never ending running shopping list🀣

Thanks Jools. I felt ready as I've managed to push on at the end of the 30 minute runs so thought I'd got a bit left in the tank. But I just took it easy and managed to keep goingπŸ˜‚πŸ‘

Somehow we know when the time is right, and it obviously was for you! Love the pic as well, makes me want to run there πŸ˜€

Yes I've decided to post every consolidation run now as I think it helps keep the motivation and interest going which is so important now we've not got an actual program to follow. I've also thought in the future when a few more of us are running 5 k about having a weekly virtual 5 k run ( a bit like a Park Run) until the proper Park Runs start up again πŸ€”

Sounds like a fantastic idea! I’m a while off 5k yet, though! Only just managed 4K πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Thanks. I think it will be one of my regular haunts. Noticed you are in consolidation too and have done the 5k. Would you be interested in a virtual 5k on here each week to keep the momentum going? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜
