Swimmer not runner...

Can someone explain this to me? I’ve been a swimmer since I was 7, so 53 years!, and a runner for almost 10 weeks. Not once in those 10 weeks have I ever suffered with stiff muscles yet first time back swimming yesterday and my back is sooooo sore I can hardly walk 😢 I’m hoping lots of stretches and a hot bath will fix it by the morning as I’ve got my 3rd consolidation run planned 🤞🤞🤞

You have probably not been using those back muscles in the same way for weeks or maybe months, so it is just your body getting used to unusual stresses, which most people do experience when they start running.

I’m so annoyed with myself for thinking I’d still be swimming-fit 😡 Lots of stretching for me this evening. This is not going to throw me off course 🤞

We get loads of former runners on here who haven't run for years and are then surprised that they have lost their condition.

Use it or lose it.
