You will probably need to go into the phone's settings to allow the app to run in the background. Some brands can be far too aggressive about stopping apps from eating battery.
I don't have a Huawei myself, so I can't tell you where that setting is.

My son has a Huawei phone, this also happened to him, he has to go into his settings to allow the phone to not go into 'sleep mode' while hes doing his run

Settings, display and change to "never" go to sleep. I have the same phone and had the same problem.
Thank you all for replying , I have now sorted the phone and stopped it from power saving.
