Another injury - feeling rubbish

Sorry but just feeling a bit down, have managed to somehow injure my other ankle (after the left has since healed) and it's so painful even after 2 days of rest, despite ice/ compression, that I think it's going to be a good while before I'll be back on it. I already feel rubbish for missing today's run and feel so low at the thought of having to stop for a while after putting in so much work/ graduating, esp as I was really starting to enjoy my consolidation runs and was managing 5k (at a very slow pace!). Hoping a few more days non-running and I'll start to notice a bit of improvement at least🀞 I'm resting, ice bathing and raising it as well as using a compression sock but if anyone has any other suggestions for healing please do let me know x

No advice other than what you are doing, just a note to wish you a speedy recovery

I'm sorry to hear you are suffering another injury. What you are doing all sounds right - maybe add in some gentle stretches, when you can do them without pain?

I'm nursing a knee niggle since pushing too far on a consolidation run - not as severe as what you are going through but I've decided to stop running for a week to see if it clears properly. It's v frustrating to have to miss runs, so I know how you feel. Why not try some of the other ex programmes on NHS website or elsewhere online to keep you going while you are healing? The beginners Pilates shouldn't hurt your ankle and they say improving your core helps you run better. Be kind to yourself while you are healing - you'll get back soon and be raring to go!

Thank you :) it's just so frustrating but you are right I need to try and get on with some other form of exercise and pilates/ yoga I think would be good. Just hoping it heals soon so I can get out there again - I hope your knee niggle gets better soon! 😊

Rest, if it hurts don't run! You will get back to it I am sure. Sorry you feel so low about the injury, it just shows how much you enjoy it.

Just take it easy and listen to your body. When I was injured everyone said rest and I did to a degree but I started doing 5K walks just to keep up with the exercise and to see if my foot could take it. Keep icing and maybe start with a walk? Hope you get better soon. πŸ€žπŸΌπŸ™

My main advice would be to keep doing what you're doing and rest rest rest! Make sure your ankle is OK before you start again and go very easy on it when you try running again. It's frustrating to be out for a couple of weeks until it heels but much more frustrating to be out for months because you push it too hard / fast.

You could think about trying some other shoes or get another runner to watch your gait if you've injured both ankles recently - there might be something youre doing technique wise that's leading to this (or it might be just chance, injuries can happen to anyone). Good luck and listen to your body!
