Does 5K count if you include the 5 minute warm up walk??

This morning I drove to a Parkrun course to complete the 5K distance. I only graduated two weeks ago, so I knew I couldn’t run it all. I started Runkeeper and walked for the first 5 minutes, then started to run. My aim was to keep running to the end, but I did walk for a few moments twice close to the end of the course. I did the 5K in 38.51, but about 6 or 7 minutes of that was walking. Next week I’m going to start the course AFTER the warm up walk and see how far I get. Wish me luck!!

I had my new running shoes on today (see yesterday’s post). I didn’t think I noticed much of a difference, but when I saw the times, I had been running quite a bit faster than I usually do. Not quite running like a gazelle though!

You should only count the running time, there is a very good chance that your running time for a 5K is sub 35 minutes. 😊 🏃🏾

Any way you look at it, 5k is still 5k in my eyes. So for a Park Run a mixture of walking, jogging and running still count. But as you progress through consolidation and beyond you will get to jog/run the full 5k without walking. Especially with your new running shoes...😂😀👍
