I won’t deny I felt a bit anxious about this run. Had a long day yesterday with travelling home again and didn’t sleep well, but really wanted to run this morning to help clear my head. It always works.
Lots of faffing about, couldn’t find my belt, then my phone went missing and forgot to charge my headphones; so I was a bit late going out of the door!
Morning, Michael, warm up walk started, Beatles again 🎶, liked the rhythm to run to last time, plus I can sing along to those golden oldies 😀.
I open the gate to the riverbank, oh no - dog walker ahead! Quite a way ahead, but I knew that I would reach him on my run and there’s not much room to pass. I also thought I recognised him. His dog, a gorgeous young cocker, knows me and will definitely jump up if I pass close. Dilemma! The parallel run on the low bank is mainly large shingle. OK. Go for the lower bank. I descend the slope, still on my warm up walk. Start to run and immediately find my pace. Unusual 😀. The doubts still creep in, but I’m going strong, oh yes - this is a good one! I pass the dog walker and the dog races down the bank to investigate but just circles and goes back! Crisis averted 😂. I glance at my pace, 9 something. Oh yess! I turn at the halfway point to go back and go a little faster. Would be great to get to 3K!
All going well - I glance ahead and think - I’m actually going to run out of riverbank, might have to turn again to finish the run (proving I was running faster on the way back). Then Michael cut in saying slow down; I misunderstood and thought the run was over, but it was 30 seconds left. Oh Michael! So my run ended up being 12 seconds short as I usually run for a bit longer anyway. I’m counting that run! I certainly could have run a further 12 seconds and I’m a rebel! My pace for the very first time was under 9mins/km. and I ran 3.1km. Yessss! In the bag. Felt so good to be running in the fens again, elevation gain was zero 😂
