I just completed W5R3 and really pleased I managed the 20 minutes non- stop 😁. I gave myself a good talking to 3-4 minutes in when I always have a desire to give up and after that was fine in terms of legs and breathing. Fab!
But I was just bored for the other 15 minutes, despite music playing in my ears. I will complete this challenge but can't see myself carrying on unless I find a way of making it more fun!
You could try different routes? Or rather than music download some podcasts. I love catching up on podcasts when running - RunPod with Jenni Falconer is a good one!
I look forward to my runs as a time to zone out for a bit, focus on my breathing and taking in my surroundings. Life is so busy it feels like a luxury to me to be bored!
Similar to you I find running a big boring so about halfway through C25K I switched from listening to music on runs to listening to audiobooks / podcasts. I started to really look forward to my runs just to hear the next instalment! Having just graduated and now doing consolidation runs I have carried on - and starting to find some great coaching / running podcasts on the Nike run app particularly the ones done with Headspace. Whereas my partner is a purist and won’t listen to anything whilst running as he says it takes his attention off technique! I guess it is just finding what works for you. Good luck and keep going. Sounds like you are making great progress!
Thanks. I do like podcasts and audio books anyway so that's probably s good idea... Just wondered if I would be able to hear over the panting!! But I'll give it a try 😉
Are you running outdoors? It really helped me to change my route. I've also run my regular route the other way around. I'm lucky that I live close to farms, fields, forest, allotments,... I really enjoy changing it up. I start in my residential area, run towards horse stables, along a dirt road between fields, through a forest, more dirt roads and fields 😁 the different surfaces and the beautiful surroundings make me forget the pain of running.
and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
You have 30 - 40 minutes all to yourself to think about anything you wish to think about.........for most people that amount of me time is considered a luxury in this world.
Don't think about running or time but let your mind wander. Give yourself a running commentary, in full sentences, on everything you can see, hear, smell and feel as you run.
Run somewhere inspirational, not just trudge urban streets. The world is your running track......go run.
I hesitate to ask, but you are not on a treadmill, are you?
