I have just completed the second run of week 6 and it was tough going! After the elation of running for 20 minutes non stop last Friday, week 6 is proving to be much harder than I had imagined it would be. On the face of it, it looks fine, shorter running times with nice breaks between them... don't be fooled, I really had to push and found the five minute walk home almost too much to bear. I was not really out of breath as such, and according to the analysis on my watch, my pace was about the same as normal; it was just the pain in my calf muscles that seemed to build and build. It is clear that the transition from running to walking is not always as restful as it seems. I am really hoping Friday's run will be better and the missing walk in the middle will actually help, however counter intuitive that may sound.

That was tough!
Hi, I absolutely agree with you. I’ve just done wk6run2 this morning and although it was easier that the previous run, it is definitely harder than the 20min solid run. But I’ve looked ahead and that was the last run with walking involved so I’m guessing things will get better from now on.
I did Week 6 a couple of weeks back while working away in York, I must admit that having done the 20 minutes non-stop, it was difficult to go back to the "run-walk-run" again, I remember even now not wanting to start running again after slowing down! Just got to trust in the programme, it will get easier again, promise!
Week 6 feels a shock. Having completed the 20 minutes and feeling elated, I looked at w6r1 and thought it looked nice, almost like a treat or a rest after managing 20 minutes. This is the first run I have not complete, I didn't manage the 3rd run, i was tired, my legs hurt and I was frustrated. I am going to attempt it again today. It is reassuring that others are finding week 6 tough. I hope your run on Friday is better
