Do shin splints mean I have to stop?

Hi all. I have just completed W2R2 since the first run of week 1my shins have been a bit sore, now they are worse and tender to touch even when resting. Everything I have read points to shin splints and all the advice online seems to recommend no running for weeks! I am just getting going with C25K and I really don’t want to stop so soon in! Are there any other options???

Any help gratefully received! 😟

It may not or it may be shin splints, but the best thing for your body now and in the future is to rest. You are better off resting and making sure everything is healed and doing the programme later on rather than pushing yourself and making it even worse. Hopefully people can give some more advice than me, but that's what I would say

I had shin splints, I think, when I stared c5k. I made sure I had my rest days but I did run through them. I don’t know if that was the best thing to do. However the only thing I can say from my own experience is stretch more before and after runs with you 5 min warm up/down. My shin splints did go away the further into the program. I have graduated but still get the occasional tenderness. I hope this helps.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
