Week9 .... Confessions of a hypochondriac

Well thanks to all your encouragement, i strapped on the trusty trainers and headed out on the first run of my final c25k week. It was gloriously warm and sunny!

I have to confess that my reluctance to run was largely due to technology-induced paranoia. I got a flash sports watch for my birthday last Thursday and when I ran with it (my last run) it buzzed at me and told me to rest! It wasn't happy with my heart rate. My husband laughed at me later when I told him. He said its because it knows my age and these things tend to think that anyone over 50 should not be exerting themselves. I laughed along but the old gremlins got to work and I began to worry that I'd end up keeling over during a run.

But today I thought I needed to get a grip and get on with it. I did, however, go even more slowly than usual just in case 🤣🤣🤣. But then for the first time ever, the technology started playing up. Michael popped in at 15mins then there was radio silence. My music crashed when i checked the app and then I discovered that the app was down. Then suddenly it popped up again - but there were two running at once both starting at zero!! Fortunately I had set the death watch when I started running so I was able to just carry on.

Anyway, after all that the 30 mins was a doddle!!!! Death watch didn't ask me to rest and although Strava had also packed up after 24 mins, the run is on Garmin in glorious technicolour! Yahoooo! Graduation here I come!

Well done Fionamags! I would also be paranoid with all that tracking! May I kindly suggest turning it all off? I find all the tracking really problematic so just turn on Strava and don't look at it until I've run for as long as I want to. Obviously while you're still on the programme you have the app to guide you! Take care and not long now!

Yay! Well done, especially with all the tech issues distracting you. Two to go!! 😁

Ah, technical gremlins are having a field day at the moment, playing on your paranoia!! Tell them off!! 😈🔨

I have just started looking at running watches and I think your experiences might just have put me off!!

Seriously though, don't let the naughty gremlins' antics put you off your stride during glorious graduation week. Concentrate on your runs and have fun!

I went for the garmin vivoactive 4s because its a bit smaller than the usual man-sized monsters and you can play music on it as well. Thought it would be great to not have my phone on me. Also, JL were doing an amazing offer throwing in bluetooth headphones for free!

Probably don't need a fraction of its capability but now ive gotten over worrying about heart rate etc I'm very happy with it.

Well done, Fionamags. Those gremlins can run off into the woods 🏃‍♀️🌷🧚‍♀️

Hello Fionamags, You have certainly been having fun out there 😉, it’s understandable the anxiety has kicked in with everything going on the world at the moment, I’m just the same 🤪 I nearly put my old polar heart rate monitor on the other day but probably as well I leave it in the drawer for now ...it’s fantastic you can feel the fear and do it anyway..and heading for that finish line, 🤗
