So, injury sustained Thur 11th June, note, the DAY AFTER I finished week 8. Took it easy for a week or so, with, persistent pain above ankle, especially when weight bearing. Took myself to a physiotherapist. As pain and tenderness was so localised he suggested x-ray. Off to Urgent care, same day, Friday 19th, nurse shows a cracked fibula on x-ray, am put into an air boot, (which is way more comfortable than without). Movement now limited. A helpful sister in law doctor suggests a bone density test as I have been vegan for 3 years. I read on google that, yes possibly my calcium intake is low, but a cracked fibula can also occur through stress - too much too soon especially with flat feet and wearing incorrect footwear! So here we are. I am waiting for virtual advice from fracture clinic. Covid 19 regs at hospital meant I couldn't see specialist at the time. So following you all on your posts and missing the running. But it's great to read about everyone as they sail through week 9 and beyond. It may take a while to heal, and I feel I had been doing so well. Old tortoise will get there in the end.

INJURY UPDATE, BACK ON THE COUCH
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. But really pleased it showed up on the x-ray and you got that boot on straight away! I'm sure you're really disappointed, it's very frustrating. But you will heal, and you can come back. It's just over a year since my stress fracture and I have managed a half marathon since ditching my boot, and am about to start training for the next. It really is possible. My GP referred me for a bone density test, but the hospital cancelled the referral. Refused to do a bone density test until I have at least one more break 😀. I decided to take that as a good sign - one stress fracture did not automatically imply a bone density issue in the eyes of the (admittedly stretched) NHS!
I wish you all the very best of luck and speedy healing. Do check out Caroline Jordan exercise videos (all no impact and perfectly possible in a boot!) - lots of strength and cardio stuff plus, when the time is right, lots of ankle and foot rehab routines too.
Take care. Don't give up 🙂
