Just done final run of week 8. Started off tough did not think I would manage as legs felt like led but after 10 minutes settled into it. New shoes for the first time toddy and so far my joints which usually ache feel better!
Week 8 done!: Just done final run of week... - Couch to 5K
Week 8 done!
I have this run tomorrow 👍
I also completed wk 8 last night. It's a great feeling isn't it? I find it takes a while for me to loosen up, and by the end I was flying! I am using very bog standard "everyday wear" trainers, but have aching ankles etc. What type of running shoes did you choose?
Shops opening soon, best go to a running shop and they will look at your feet and advise
We have been in lockdown here in PA, US, since mid March without the possibility of shopping in person. So I decided to buy a pair of Brooks online as they offer (at least here in the US) a 90 day return policy so you can run in them to test them out. The shoes (purchased for street wear) that I was running in were not going to work for the longer runs.
I read several articles about shoes, looking for recommendations for people with my foot profile - flat feet due to collapsed high arches, overpronation, etc - and one particular pair of Brooks seemed to crop up a lot. Then the Brooks website suggested that model as the best for my feet based on their online fit tool. And a half size up from my street size (I got a 41.5, and would wear a 41 in most European brands).
All my foot pain and ankle pain (I have arthritis in my right ankle) stopped dead in their tracks. After a week I threw away the box as I knew they weren't going back
I am still going to go and get a gait analysis (assuming any of the nearby running stores survive the lockdown) and see if there's an even better choice or size for my feet, but for now they have made a world of difference.
