I had a very similar experience a few days ago on W6 R3! I tried not to feel too despondent as I kept moving and did run again for the last 5 minutes. However, my ankle has been really swollen and painful since. I've given myself a few days off for my ankle to recover (icepacks and lots of them) and I think I will just start Week6 again tomorrow. I've also been reading up on running technique and have decided I need to invest in some new supportive 'proper' trainers. Could your footwear be contributing to you and your Mum's foot and calf pain perhaps? Good luck!
Sorry about both you and your mother struggling with run 3 of week 6 due to injury while running, could be that you were running a little too fast, perhaps you had not hydrated enough the previous day, all runners must drink plenty of water even if they don't intend to run.
You can repeat any runs or week's if you wish to, I would advise you and your mother to take a few extra days off running, drink plenty of water the day before you run and some on the day you run, repeat run 3 of week 6 and run a little slower than you did today, make sure any injuries have completely gone, good luck.
Not sure what the pains are, and it’s impossible to diagnose from here, not that I’m medically trained anyway. Hydration can make a big difference to the calves, so I’d have mum check she’s on that... foot pain, could be a few things really, top of foot pain is often a lacing issue, were they too tight? Other areas can be an issue... has the pain gone now? Rest well, see how it is next run, it could be something and nothing.
Now, to the run... you ran to about the half way I believe... only the pains stopped you... there’s nothing there that says you can’t do this run pain free. You’ve done 20 minutes before, so you know you can match that, and the tricky intervals you did earlier in the week would have you ready for today... I believe that you could have got to the finish line. Today’s running makes you stronger and fitter too... assuming you’re painless next time out I think you’ll both be just fine.
Very well done to both of you for getting going again after the pause... many would have ended the session... that’s the kind of determination that will get you through the tough runs that we all get from time to time.
Be proud of yourselves... enjoy a rest day and see how the pains are... relax and go again when you can. You can do this.
