I seem to get a twinge in my knee that I've noticed happens if I stumble or twist it even slightly, stupidly ran a sharp uturn on my last run (Wk8 Run1) instead of just turning around cause I'm an idiot. Didn't feel it straight away but next day can felt it, it's not horrendous but I've had it before and know if I run on it it'll just get worse. Any advice?? Are knee supports any good?? I'm keen to carry on 🏃♀️
Many thanks

It’s tricky to answer, we all heal differently... hopefully it’ll settle down soon, but I wouldn’t run until it’s pain free walking... and I’d then test it with a short jog (10 metres) on flat, and then find an incline to run the same up and down. I’d do this during a walk and about the running if there was any reaction. Even then I’d run the next run really slowly and be ready to stop if there was any pain.
I wore knee braces for a couple of weeks of C25K as I had a similar injury to yours... mine was dumber, it was rest day so I though I’d do some sprints and fast turns on a beach... I’ve learned since then 🤣. They were good, but I didn’t want to stay in them for too long as they were slowing my development a little... I’ve been pain free since then, and I’d had some pains in my knee every day for 30 years. A less restrictive support may help for longer... finding the right one for you might not be too easy at the moment though.
I've also had a twingy knee - no real pain unless I start probing beneath my patella - however I have been wearing a knee brace (as recomended by RigPig). I rest it for two days between runs as I'm going farther. It's good but is it stopping my knee from strengthening on its own?
I'm the same it's not painful to walk it's like a sharpish achey pain in my kneecap, my alignment is out on that side and my foot kicks out so wonder if that's why that knee gets it. I think I will wear the knee support until I know its fine and then run without it, thanks for your advice. The only time this has happened is when I've slightly twisted it so straight runs from now on.
Thanks for the advice ☺️ I'm glad I'm not the only one, even after I did it, I thought why the hell did you do that 🤣 i will wait till it feels better and try the test run you said, that's great advice because I don't want to jump in and do a run and make it worse. First time I did it I just stumbled on a stone while attempting a park run but kept running despite the niggles and ended up painful to walk and off exercise for a few weeks. This time I am going to rest till the niggle has gone, I'm enjoying this programme so much and the least time I'm off the better. I wore the support last time just while it was bad so wondered if it would help recovery that's all. Thanks again 😊
I would go and see a sports physio and/or a sports podiatrist. It's very possible that your knee isn't tracking properly (misalignment) which is very very common. Few of us are 100% symmetrical.
I aggravated my knee and had similiar symptoms as you. In the end I saw my GP who referred me to a sports physio who instantly saw that I was mis-aligned. I'm wonky! She then referred me to her in-house podiatrist and for the last 5 years I've worn custom-made orthotics which resolved my dodgy knees of 20+ yrs and I havent looked back. I then did C25K ...
I think your right, I am wonky lol, because it's always the same side and I have had foot and ankle pain that side too. I really want to keep running so it's great to hear I will be able to carry on 😊 there is a sports physio at my local doctors so I will book in when I can. Thanks so much
