So I graduated on Friday and was feeling ecstatic, surprised, amazed, impressed and loads of other such words that convey how one feels upon such an occasion especially given that I’m an exercise shy unfit overweight bloke. I’d already decided that I would continue with consolidation to hopefully improve my speed and to reach that 5k distance running. I thought I would carry on with the week 9 runs for a bit and then add a bit of time to the runs as I progressed without rushing myself.
Been out for my second consolidation run today and can seem to get motivated or keep going. Get to about the 2k/15min mark and I’ve had enough, giving myself excuses like this hurts a bit, that hurts a little, it’s too hot, windy or some other rubbish reason to not carry on. All things I’ve previously pushed through but now I can’t summon the energy.
Any suggestions, hints, tips or if you find my MOJO laying around send it back this way please!

Are you still listening to the app or the podcast? I have only just finished week 6 this morning, feeling good after running for 25 minutes for the first time. I do find the occasional encouraging comments help me to keep going. The music is an absolute essential. For now I am using the podcast with Laura, the music isn't my thing, but it sets the pace very well. Looking forward to graduation when I will have my own playlist of some old but great rock music
I’m using the app and rerunning W9 with Laura. Tried the other guides but they’re not right or my happy place. My music is stuff I find energising via Spotify.
Remind yourself why you are doing this. Maybe try the podcasts for stamina and speed. You can mix them up and they are good for consolidating and getting you to the 5k point. Music is a bit blah but you won’t feel like your are repeating yourself. Plus when you are ready you can move onto bridge to 10k.
Consolidation sometimes feels a little like No-Man's Land, when you can feel a bit rudderless without the security of a plan. Pop over to the May Consolidation post
and share your thoughts with roseabi, who is one of the administrators. She will give you some great advice. It would be a good idea to read some of the many threads within that post too as you will soon realise you are not alone. Lots of recent graduates post on there regularly to share what they are doing during consolidation and you can pick up some really great ideas and tips, as well as lots of support and encouragement from other people in the same boat. Good luck!
