Feeling more positive for week 9

Been feeling a bit despondent after my Week 7, Run 2. I think just a lot of things had come together and mentally and physically I was very tired. Turned out I had plantar fasciitus which had been caused by a combo of running and wearing backless slippers during lockdown (who knew!).

Have now sorted this by rolling a can under my foot twice a day (yes, really!), and wearing proper shoes with an insole around the flat. The NHS has some good advice and exercises for those also with a painful foot arch nhs.uk/conditions/plantar-f...

I slowed down for a couple of runs while I was recovering. But finished week 8 yesterday at the speed that I had been running at previously (a modest 7min/km, nothing too extreme) and now looking forward to graduating next week. Very proud of how far I have come. Thanks so much to everyone here for the inspiration, advice and support over the past few weeks.

Oh also to get myself back in the positive mindset I read 'Running Like a Girl' by Alexandra Heminsley, which I would recommend to those starting out and wanting to get excited about a future as a runner.

You're doing great! I had plantar fasciitis and had steroid injections in my heel which caused it to rupture. Very painful! Avoid flip flops at all costs! I was unable to complete my run today due to knee pain. Had a good cry and got a support bandage on now. Hoping it will heal in s few days. Good luck with your future runs x

I also have plantar fasciitis - I found some shaped backless slippers (Vionic Gemma) on Amazon (the US site) that have really helped the condition. Also worth seeing a podiatrist when you can. I expect you have done this but having the right running shoes helps too.

Well done! Yes, amazing how bad slippers can be for your feet! No wonder we all end up shuffling!

Good luck with W9... you've got this 👌🏻😁
