Has anyone else felt great after the 20 minutes run on W5R3, but really struggled to complete this run? My body feels like jelly! Is there any explanation, or is it just me?!

Same with me! There is a lot of discussion on this so we are not alone. The day I finished week 5 day 3 I was elated and confident, I purchased a book on running your first marathon. Then I ran week 6 day 1. And it was a rude awakening. I am currently in the middle of week 7, it has gotten better, but there has been some struggles. I have not given up on my marathon dream, but it is going to be a lot of work and a long time of it.

congratulations on your journey so far and good luck!

Thanks - it’s good I’m not alone!

I was the same! Didn’t expect to struggle so much after the 20 minute run on week 5, but it did make me feel better in that although it almost killed me, I know that I can run for 20 whole minutes now and so was able to push on. It must get easier!

W6R1 is your longest workout to date and many struggle with it.

One twenty minute run does not a runner make............but self deception and elation after W5R3 means that many believe they have cracked this running thing.

Don't worry, you did it and you are still making progress, but it does nicely illustrate the psychological challenges associated with running.

Hi - I was the same - I thought W6R1 would feel easier after the 20 minute run, but like you found it a struggle.

Have today completed W6R3 and was able to run for 25 minutes which I never ever thought I would be able to do when I started the program - it does get easier over the week 😊
