Delayed Week3 Run 1 & 2

Thought I’d post, maybe to give someone some encouragement not to give up.

Weeks 1 & 2 started a couple of months back, on a treadmill. By the end of week 2 I was struggling, changed shoes to get better grip during the 1st week, found balance required real concentration & cramp in my left shin anywhere after 10-12 minutes into the run that made the rest of the season a real distraction & painful chore. I wasn’t enjoying this at all.

Was a lost at what to do, no way would I be able to carry on in the harder weeks to come. So I left it for a bit, during this lock down, I’ve been sorting the front & rear gardens, cleared and sorted the garage. Lots more walking to the local shop, daily exercise walks & a bit of cycling with the children.

Friday I returned to this programme & started straight back at week 3, just completed run 2 and felt really good in both sessions. Touch quicker in the jogging parts whilst still feeling I’m pacing myself, good brisk walks in between & no shin cramps!??!

What/How/Why? who knows but onwards I go for now.

I hope this helps anyone at week 1 or 2 thinking this isn’t working for them or their body isn’t up to it.

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

You might well find that the pains return after you have done several runs, so I would recommend that you follow the advice in the guide about minimising impact and pacing.

Enjoy your journey.

Completed W4 R2 and came through without pain or cramping. Fingers cross but the stretching/hydration & odd extra rest day seems to be holding it at bay for now.

Timely reminder that the guidance is there to support this journey and aid you in overcoming any issues that you may face.

Onwards we go!
