Newbie needing motivation!

A newbie here! So, 2.5 years ago, I managed to lose 3.5 stone..... however, over the last year, my weight has slowly risen again, pretty much to my heaviest weight. Sick of feeling sluggish and out of breath just playing with my little people! So, whilst we are on lockdown, i really want to start sorting myself out again!

I have NEVER been a runner, NEVER! So, am slightly anxious and not sure how comfortable I feel about being seen out and about to be honest.

Has anyone here just started?

Stay safe. X

Hi there ISHA1930. I am relatively new to running, am 36 and started out at 89 kg. I have always threatened myself with it, but never found the opportunity to go with my threats! I started this programme three weeks ago now. At first I was really quite conscious if I could actually run at all, and b, I was concerned that I wouldn’t stick to it. But, I’m currently on a rest day and tomorrow start week 3 run 2. Because of all the lock down I’m running in the evening (about 20:00) and really enjoying it, seeing views of the countryside that I’ve never really appreciated until now. Get your self some good running trainers if you decide it’s for you, take it steady it’s not a race. Best of luck hope you enjoy it.

We can all tell you that the hardest part of C25K is getting out the door for the first run/jog. Not the 🏃‍♀️ itself, but getting out the door. So I would suggest that you get your trainers, earphones and your phone ready and just go. No one is concerned about what you are doing. Just remember about social distancing & being safe. You can do this. Post here on the forum once have done your first W1 R1. We are here to support. Good luck.

Hi ISHA1930, I started C25K only this week. I’ve never run before and, if I’m honest, I’d never fancied it much either, but with the lockdown I thought I’d give it ago. I’m so glad I did. I’ve just completed Week 1 Run 3. I can’t believe I did it and, I actually enjoyed it. Losing 3.5 stone before, you obviously have great will power when you set your mind to it 😊.

If you’re feeling self conscious, remember it will look worse in your mind than it really does and generally people aren’t paying you any attention. If you can, and you think it will help, look for a route that’s more secluded or run at a less busy time. Take it slow to start, it’s more of a slow jog than a run for me and that also makes me feel less self conscious. The support here from everyone is always amazing. Remember the feelings you had as you lost the weight, those feelings will return. Be brave, go for it!
